Jessica Pinsky returns to HEDGE Gallery with a striking new series of textiles titled “I Can’t Remember Anything” with a preview on November 16, and an opening reception November 18, 2022.

Pinsky’s medium of choice is natural fiber because of its connection to skin and tissue, and its relationship to human experience and memory. She began her artistic career as a painter, receiving her MFA from Boston University, and began to learn the weaving process after graduation, exploring dying techniques and learning on a variety of looms. She is now the executive director at Praxis Fiber Workshop in Cleveland, OH which she founded in conjunction with the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2015.

“I Can’t Remember Anything” will be on view at HEDGE Gallery, November 16- December 30, 2022.

For more details, please contact gallery director Hilary Gent at hedgeartgallery.com

Not a Cleveland Post:

These are photos from the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum in Saginaw, MI. I talked a lot about this as it relates to our War Memorial Fountain on Mall A. But these are photos of other works by Marshall Fredericks, who lived in Cleveland and went to the Cleveland Institute of Art.

In this post I feature:

"Christ on the Cross", a life size plaster version of the Christ (28 feet tall). The bronze version is on a 55 feet cross.

A bronze version of the "Boy and the Bear" in the outdoor sculpture Garden.

A quarter size plaster model of the "Spirit of Detroit."

So grateful for my guests this summer that told me about this museum. If you are ever up that way, it is totally worth stopping in!

On Nov. 28, 1999, the first Transgender Day of Remembrance was held in honor of Rita Hester, who was killed a year before in Boston. Gwendolyn Ann Smith, though more than 3,000 miles away in San Francisco, refused to let Hester’s memory die.

In 2005 the first documented Transgender Day of Remembrance was held in Cleveland. Now observed Nov. 20, the day reflects on the lives of those no longer with us while supporting those who are. Currently, at least 32 transgender individuals were killed in 2022.

Here are four ways Northeast Ohio invites you to show alliance:

🏳️‍⚧️ Friday, Nov. 18, Margie’s Hope founder Jacob Nash coordinates Transgender Day of Remembrance in Cleveland at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Tremont. Speakers, a reading of names and music will begin at 6 p.m. (2592 W. 14th St., Cleveland)

🏳️‍⚧️ Nov. 18-Nov. 20, Margie's Hope, Black Space Productions and the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland will observe a weekend of remembrance, starting with a Friday rally at Lincoln Park (4 p.m.), Saturday dinner and open mic at the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland (3 p.m.-8 p.m.) and then a candlelight vigil starting at West Blvd. and Detroit Ave. into Edgewater Park on Sunday (5:30 p.m.-6 p.m.)

🏳️‍⚧️ Sunday, Nov. 20, Geauga SOGI Support Network will honor Transgender Day of Remembrance with a ceremony and candlelight vigil at Federated Church Family Life Center from 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. (16349 Chillicothe Road, Chagrin Falls)

🏳️‍⚧️ Nov. 21-Nov. 23, stemming from student programming with Case Western Reserve University's LGBT Center, the Cleveland Institute of Art will host a Transgender Day of Remembrance gallery walk open to the public. Visuals of those lost in 2022 will be displayed throughout the building. Visitors can post photos in memoriam and notes on a traveling wall near the Reinberger Gallery 8 a.m.-8 p.m. (11610 Euclid Ave., Cleveland)
