Children who are heading back to the classroom this fall are facing unusual challenges, and one of them is anxiety about being separated from their families after months of togetherness. For some kids it will trigger separation anxiety, in addition to the anxiety they may feel about leaving their safe harbor from the pandemic. Parents are now tasked with the complicated mission of dealing with all this anxiety and uncertainty: reassuring children that it’s safe to be away from them, while also encouraging them to be careful and preparing them to be flexible in case the situation changes. How do you do that? Here are some pointers.

Cleveland Integrative Counseling is now offering SPACE. SPACE is a short term parent-based treatment option that reduces childhood anxiety. SPACE teaches parents how to develop a supportive role rather than accommodating their child’s anxiety (and subsequently strengthening it), all while restoring their child’s autonomy. SPACE offers a practical solution for parents of children with anxious childhood emotions such as OCD, panic disorder, separation anxiety, and specific phobias, that are unable/willing to attend treatment themselves or in compliment to a child's on-going therapy. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call or email 216 600 8008 [email protected]
