💛 More Cleveland children are getting screened for lead — and collaborative efforts are making it happen.

Spectrum News 1 recently highlighted the Lead Safe Screening and Testing Program, administered by Better Health Partnership on behalf of the Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition. The story features BHP President and CEO Robert Eick, MD, MPH, discussing efforts to integrate lead testing into primary care and expand access to screening for Cleveland families.

Since the story aired, the program’s screening and testing rate has continued to rise, reaching 79.4% and surpassing the program’s 79% goal.

The feature is part of broader Spectrum News 1 coverage exploring childhood lead exposure and the work happening across Cleveland to prevent exposure, connect families with resources, and protect children’s health.

❤️Heart health is getting a boost in Cleveland!

The B/Pressure Pilot Program continues to make strides in helping Cleveland residents know their numbers and stay on top of their heart health.

Since launching in May, five trained barbers at Major League Barbershop have completed 42 blood pressure screenings, bringing an important health resource directly into the community. Recent enhancements are making the program even stronger, including a new screening kiosk, an updated outreach protocol, and a raffle to encourage even more clients to participate.

Better Health Partnership is proud to be part of this collaborative effort to make preventive care more accessible and meet Cleveland residents where they are.

🎉The Lead Safe Screening & Testing Program Marks Major Progress Towards Goal!

Over the past year, testing rates climbed from 69.3% to 78.6%, meaning 547 more children were screened for lead exposure. The grant period has been extended through September, allowing partners to continue building on this progress and planning for sustainability.

A key driver of improvement has been in-office capillary testing, now in place at 28 practices.

We are grateful to our partners and the Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition for driving this work forward.

📃 A New Chapter for Medicaid: What’s Ahead for Ohioans

Beginning in 2027, some adults covered through Medicaid expansion will need to meet monthly community engagement requirements, such as work, education, or service, unless they qualify for an exemption. The new rules are also expected to bring additional documentation and renewal requirements, which may create challenges for residents trying to maintain coverage. Local partners, including Cuyahoga Job and Family Services, are preparing guidance to help people stay covered as these changes roll out.
