We’re thrilled to launch Voices of Community Health Workers, a spotlight on the community health workers (CHWs) who strengthen families, navigate barriers, and build healthier communities across Northeast Ohio — one connection at a time.

During CHW Day 2026, we captured short, powerful conversations with CHWs about their work, their impact, and the stories that drive them. Each episode highlights the people behind the mission.

To kick off the series, we spoke with LaShawn Huey, Program Development Assistant for the Cuyahoga County Welcome Center, and a passionate advocate whose work reflects the heart of community health.

🤝 On July 6, partners of First Year Cleveland’s Partners for Change initiative gathered for a Stakeholder Meeting.

Building on Year 1 insights, we’re moving into Year 2 with strategies that strengthen early prenatal care, expand remote blood pressure monitoring, and support universal low‑dose aspirin use. This continued work will also include a new co‑design workshop focused on improving patient trust in health care.

Together, these efforts aim to improve maternal and infant health outcomes across our community.

📣 Your Voice Matters — Share It in the Community Health Needs Assessment!

Our partners at the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH) and the Cleveland Department of Public Health are asking for community input to help improve health and well-being across Cuyahoga County.

The Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) survey asks residents to share which programs, services, and strategies are most important for addressing our region’s top health issues and concerns. Please share it with your network!

☀️ July brings several important health observances that reflect our commitment to advancing community well‑being.

This month highlights UV Safety Awareness, Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness, International Group B Strep Awareness, Sarcoma Awareness, and more. Each observance offers an opportunity to elevate prevention, education, and equitable access to care across our region.

📅 The Better Health Pathways HUB’s Community Advisory Council convened on Friday, June 26 with representatives from local nonprofit, health care, and social service agencies.

The Council offers critical insight into the needs of Cuyahoga County residents and helps strengthen the Pathways HUB network. The meeting focused on partner feedback for a new HUB initiative testing CHW‑led outreach and care coordination to close lead screening and testing gaps in partnership with a Medicaid managed care plan.

🚣 We had a wonderful Board of Directors Annual Strategic Retreat last week at The Foundry Community Rowing and Sailing Center — an incredible organization expanding access to rowing, sailing, and youth development along the Cuyahoga River in the Flats of Cleveland. Their work to empower young people and strengthen community aligns beautifully with our mission at Better Health Partnership.
