Today we said goodbye to our beloved Penny. She was as good as it gets.
15 years ago I went to Austin Pets Alive to see “Louise”, a dog so crazy she came with a disclaimer essentially saying not to adopt her. They had her in a double-tall pen, she was covered in mange, and was peeing everywhere. Somehow I knew…
As I walked to the ATM to get the $75 to adopt her, the song “Penny Lane” popped into my head and I knew that was her. I paid them and leashed her up. She pulled furiously in every direction. I set her in the back seat, closed the door, and the moment I started the car, she turned into the calmest, sweetest dog in the world. And that’s who she was for the rest of her life. She was meant to be my dog, and when I brought her home to surprise , she was ours.
Thank you for being the best dog, Penny. Thank you for giving us almost 16 years of unconditional love, laughter, and joy. I know you’re swimming with the best of em now. We love you forever and always.

When I found out that my old friend and longtime collaborator, Brian Ferguson (), was diagnosed with a brain tumor, it was devastating. I was sad for my friend. But Brian’s outlook has been infectious and an inspiration. He has been a lightning rod, channeling something from beyond this world like a man on fire. Brian would be the first to shun any personal credit for the incredible music we’ve been producing over the past year, so I will do it for him.
Brian is a songwriter, arranger, artist, and musician whose music never ceases to move me to my core, and it has been one of the great honors of my life to help shepherd this inspiration into the world.
We could not have done it without all of these amazing collaborators and contributors and I think it’s safe to say none of us have ever felt more alive. Here’s to more because I know the powers that be are funneling another album through him as we speak, and I can’t wait to get started!

Tonight, I’ll be presenting a live version of my upcoming YouTube series at the Austin Producer Alliance’s August Meetup at Capital Factory.
We’ll be talking about making music on commission with a full session breakdown of the Austin Gilgronis theme song, written by Tone Royal and I, and produced and mixed by myself. We’ll talk about taking control of a project, exceeding a client’s expectations, and how getting it wrong the first, or second time, is all part of the process.
