It certainly has saved my life. How about you?
I stepped away from my painting today because this feels too urgent to ignore.
What we are witnessing in the U.S. is not “politics as usual.” It is the steady mobilization of a fascist regime, one that thrives on fear, scapegoating, disinformation, and the erosion of democratic norms. Fascism doesn’t arrive all at once. It creeps in while people are exhausted, distracted, and told it’s pointless to pay attention.
This moment is designed to make us feel overwhelmed and powerless. That’s the trap.
Here’s what can be done, right now, without burning yourself out:
• Pay attention. Read beyond headlines. Learn how authoritarian movements operate so you can recognize them early.
• Protect your community. Check in on marginalized people who are most at risk. Mutual care is resistance.
• Use your voice. Talk about it. Art, writing, music, conversation—silence is what authoritarianism feeds on.
• Support local organizers and journalists doing real, grounded work—not just viral outrage.
• Vote, help others vote, and defend voting rights every chance you get. This is foundational, not optional.
• Resist normalization. Cruelty, corruption, and lies should never become “just how things are.”
Rest when you need to. Create beauty when you can. But don’t look away.
History shows us that fascism depends on people believing nothing they do matters. It does. We are not powerless, but we do have to stay awake.
I’m going back to my painting now, because art is also part of the resistance. But I needed to say this out loud.

Banksy has struck again, revealing a new mural in London just days before Christmas. Depicting two bundled-up kids lying down and stargazing, the work could be a reference to the estimated 102,000 unhoused children residing in temporary accommodations in the city.

I had an incredible weekend selling art, and I’m still blown away by the response to my work. I shared laughter, tears, and meaningful conversations with new collectors, and had the honor of meeting so many talented, inspiring artisans. Moments like these are why I create.
