OMTA was honored to gather elected leaders, community partners, and maritime organizations at Intercity Yacht Club to discuss expanding workforce pathways, boater education, swim readiness, and equitable water access for Cleveland youth.

When industry, education, and public leadership align, we move closer to a future where Lake Erie is accessible to everyone.

This Earth Day, let’s honor our planet with action, not just intention. Ohio’s Shrink Wrap Recycling Program is a powerful reminder that even the biggest single-use plastics—like the shrink wrap used to protect our boats—can be kept out of landfills and waterways when we choose to recycle responsibly. Since 2006, over 2.3 million pounds of shrink wrap have been diverted, protecting our rivers, lakes, and marine life from harmful plastic waste. Every piece recycled is a step toward cleaner water, healthier ecosystems, and a better future. Let’s remove the strap, recycle the wrap, and do our part to keep Ohio—and our Earth—beautiful. It’s almost that time of year where you unwrap those beauties and prepare for what you hope to be an active boating season!

This year, I challenge you to recycle your shrink-wrap PROPERLY.. remove those nylon straps (& zippers if you have them!) and drop off at one of the local drop off sites.

Don’t want to fuss with it? For a small fee, our company will remove and deliver to the recycling agency. Call 216-316-0728 for a quote.

Remember: throwing it into the city recycling is not the way to recycle this wrap! It only contaminates the entire container sending it all straight to the landfill.
