Hi David, I just wanted to tell you, again, how absolutely pleased Cindy is with framing of the picture of Jake that you did. Again a first class job all the way. It looks incredible. I hope you don't mind me posting a couple of pictures of it on here. The work that you do is awesome. Thank you so much.

was thinking about you guys---hope all is well?
I just want to take a bit of time to say what a great job David did. I had a print that was in Mom's house and my wife wanted it when Mom passed. It was only covered in plastic when Mom had it and my wife wanted to hang it in the bathroom. I took it to Claremont Custom Framing and told David what I wanted and where it was going to hang. He told me what he would do and then the cost and time it would take. This was a Christmas present for my wife. I agreed and said do it. Not only did he call me 2 days earlier than what he had said but it was also a little less than what he quoted. He did an AWESOME job. The print looks great and wife is really happy with the results. I would HIGHLY recommend David if you need anything framed. He explains everything from how to why he suggests what he does. He is extremely professional and great to work with. Thank you so much David. Like I said when I was leaving, when EVER I have anything else that needs framing, I will be bringing it to you.

This Week at the [New] Shop – each week brings interesting projects to our shop - now at 131 Broad St., Claremont – and this project is no exception: A vintage print of a painting by English painter Marcus Stone (4 July 1840 – 24 March 1921). “His Ship In Sight” was first exhibited by the London Royal Academy of Arts (RA) in 1903. Founded in 1768, RA has a unique position to this day as an independent, privately funded institution led by eminent artists and architects. The image also appeared in The Illustrated London News, the world's first illustrated weekly news magazine (1842- 2003), the most successful of its day. Marcus Stone was trained by his father and was supremely gifted, exhibiting at the London Royal Academy of Art before he was eighteen. He later illustrated, with much success, books by Charles Dickens, among other contemporaries of the day. His early work focused on historical events, with later compositions, like our feature here, depicting a type of “dainty sentiment, treated with much charm and skill”. Our frame design gives a nod to the elegance of the composition, and the period. Complete with beautiful, period-appropriate framework in gold, neutral colors that let the image stand out, and set off by a gold fillet - a small, decorative frame placed in the lining of a picture frame or in this case underneath a mat inside one, which helps draw the eye inwards to the artwork. As is our custom, all was mounted using archival materials for protection and longevity, and placed behind optically coated glazing for UV protection and to reduce glare. Gorgeous. Thank you! Vintage artwork of your own in need of attention? We’d love to help. Please visit www.claremontcustomframing.com for information about our services, or stop by our NEW Claremont, NH shop now located at 131 Broad St, Claremont, NH! (Appointments appreciated.)

This week at the [new] shop – as we get back to a more normal routine after our move to 131 Broad St., Claremont, we pick up where we left off with This Week at the Shop... This week features a photo restoration/reproduction project, with a beautiful custom frame. An antique, hand-colored portrait from a long-past time arrived at our shop, badly damaged and in need of restoration/reproduction and framing. The reproduction work was first completed digitally, bringing back colors, clarity, and contrast, and completed on a custom print produced using archival paper and inks. The archival mounting and frame design feature a slightly more than neutral mat color, letting the artwork stand out behind reflection-resistant glazing, surrounded by dual-frames of hand-polished walnut, and gold metal leaf hand-finished with an antique stain. The entire piece is not only gorgeous but also protected within archival materials for longevity and beautifully appropriate for the time period of the composition. Thank you! Artwork of your own needing reproduction or restoration? We'd love to help. Please visit www.claremontcustomframing.com for information about our services, or stop by our NEW Claremont, NH shop now located at 131 Broad St, Claremont, NH! (Appointments appreciated.)

This Week at the Shop: Our work this week features a signed, limited edition print by American artist Will Moses, great-grandson of the celebrated artist “Grandma Moses”, to be given as a special gift. Grandson Will continues the family passion for producing colorful folk art from his studio at the family homestead in the small New York community of Eagle Bridge. His work captures the quiet beauty of his hometown, nestled in the foothills near the Vermont border. Influenced by his grandfather and renowned great grandmother, Will’s artwork is a progression of the folk art style made popular by his great grandmother, but takes on more complexity and sophistication. Will and his wife, Sharon, founded Mt. Nebo Gallery, the primary publisher, and distributor of all of Will’s original and graphic art. The art of Will Moses can be found in the White House, The Smithsonian, The New York State Museum, the Bob Hope collection, and many other notable collections. For our featured print, a subtle, yet elegant gold frame was selected and inlaid with a fillet of complementary color, bringing the dimensions of the framework in line with sizes and perspectives in the artwork. The three-mat design helps draw the eye into the folksy Americana scene, and all was mounted on archival materials and placed under optically treated glass for protection and longevity. Thank you! Artwork of your own waiting for something special? We'd love to help. Please visit www.claremontcustomframing.com for information about our services, or stop by our Claremont, NH shop for help! This Week at the Shop: Many of the projects that find their way to our shop are desired by their owners to be simple, framed mementos of special moments, places, or events. Our feature this week is just such a project: poster art of national parks to be framed for simplicity, beauty, and longevity. It’s worth noting that the featured art is designed and printed by Nashville firm, Anderson Design Group, specializing in illustration and poster design, and with an affinity for the USA National Parks – over 1,700 designs to date. The group operates all processes in the USA and takes its artistic inspiration from the Masters of Golden Age Poster Art – a period of time from the late 1800s to the mid-1900s that saw work from prominent designers bringing modernist design and typeface sensibilities to poster design. The group's goal is to purposefully create prints that “look like they were produced in the early part of the 20th century”. Each work is painstakingly created by hand before moving to computer only as a finishing tool. This week's featured project includes several of these beautifully designed prints, placed within a simple consistent frame design that complements the nature of the natural beauty depicted in the art. Each item was carefully mounted on archival materials as our standard procedure, and placed behind UV-filtered glass for protection against light damage. The result is a lovely collection of art celebrating our national parks, and that will bring years of enjoyment for its owners. Thank you! Special artwork of your own waiting for the perfect place on your walls? We'd love to help. This Week at the Shop: We return this week to the topic of antique botanical art - original, hand-colored engravings actually - completed in England in 1770, ’73, and ’76 by German-born draughtsman and engraver, John Miller. Miller dedicated much of his career as an engraver to the “Cultivation of his favorite Science”, producing artistically excellent renderings of plants and insects under the guidance of scientific and academic contemporaries such as Dr. Gowan Knight of the British Museum. One of his later volumes contains a letter of encouragement from Dr. Carolus Linnaeus, a contemporary who framed the principles and rules of taxonomy in the classification system of plants and animals still used today. Our featured items are attractive examples of botanical drawing with details for classification under the Linnaean system. To help with continued longevity, as always, the artwork was mounted on archival materials. In this case, 100% cotton board buffered with calcium carbonate that helps prevent yellowing by counteracting acidity and acidic by-products found in wood pulp materials. Ruled lines known as French Matting, common during the time period, were applied by hand by our own David Putnam. To complete the design, all was placed behind optically treated glass within a beautiful metal-leaf frame suitable for the artwork, the period, and the budget. Thank you! Interesting artwork of your own waiting for attention? We’d love to help. More than a local frame shop.

Art lovers have been trusting Claremont Custom Framing with their beloved possessions since 1975. We’re pleased to say that many who have come to trust us as their go-to place for framing treasured heirlooms, cherished pictures, and precious paintings, have also become our friends. That’s what local community support is all about.

Services at our Claremont shop include custom framing of original prints, lithographs, posters, needlework, and paintings. But we’re also a local resource for museum-quality art preservation, repair, conservatation and professional cleaning. We have provided this service for more than 40 years to worldwide customers.

Cleaning and repairing an oil painting or other important artwork successfully is a delicate undertaking, particularly if it’s old or has signs of damage such as cracked or chipped paint. The entire process is one that demands care and attention to detail. There aren’t many resources for that in the region and you can expect a specialized skill, specialized equipment, and exceptional care for your art.

For those paintings with damage, we can clean, repair and reline them. That’s a delicate process of adhering the painting with a special wax to a new canvas material. This stabilizes the artwork, helps stop tears, and will reattach the paint. Our work even includes retouching and “in- paint” with the appropriate shades and textures of paint to return your painting as close to original as possible.
