Two small boxes, one complete AI workstation. The bottom one is a GIGABYTE DGX Spark; the top one is Luisuantech's GP Spark, and it exists because the Spark's internal slots only fit short 2230/2242 M.2 drives, a design choice that caps capacity well below what full-size SSDs offer. This box takes four full-size 2280 sticks and serves them back to the Spark over a single 100GbE cable using NVMe-oF, with a dedicated offload chip doing the protocol work. No fans, no drivers, no storage OS, under 100W over USB-C. In our testing it fed the Spark at 9.5 GiB/s, the full line rate of the link, with GPU Direct Storage running straight to the drives. That SSD is half a petabyte. DapuStor's R6060 512TB on display at FMS 2026, built in the new E2 form factor, an EDSFF variant designed specifically for maximum-capacity QLC drives. The gold edge connector at the top is the same interface language as any enterprise SSD; everything below it is NAND, enough that two of these equal a full petabyte of flash. It doubles the company's previous 245TB design, and no shipping drive we've tested comes close. Bottom cover off the Dell Pro Precision 5 16s Intel. One blower fan at the top left, the mainboard across the top third, and the 70Wh battery filling the lower half. The two speaker modules sit in the bottom corners, away from the keyboard deck.

That battery is what returned 24 hours and 43 minutes on our PCMark 10 office battery run, the longest of any Pro Precision we have tested. Dell keeps this one serviceable too: the memory is LPCAMM2 rather than soldered, and the SSD, WLAN card, fan, and battery are all replaceable.

Dell

Sixteen bays, one clean face. This is Ubiquiti's Enterprise NAS in the lab, a 3U chassis where each caddy gets its own release button and activity LED on the front panel. Around back it gets more interesting: dual 25GbE SFP28 ports, SFF-8644 expansion connectors for shelves Ubiquiti says will push past a petabyte, redundant 550W hot-swap supplies, and M.2 slots behind a blank panel for read cache. ZFS underneath, every feature included, no license fees, $3,999 MSRP diskless. We filled it with IronWolf Pro 30TB drives and pushed 4,170 MB/s over NFS. Full review at the link in bio.

Ubiquiti Inc

Open it up and the story is the memory. That module next to the battery is LPCAMM2, 64GB at 8533 MT/s in a replaceable pack instead of soldered to the board, one of the few thin workstations doing it. The rest of the Dell Pro Precision 5 14s Intel is equally deliberate: 16-core Panther Lake silicon, Arc Pro B390 graphics certified for CAD without a discrete GPU, one blower and one heatpipe keeping it all inside 19.1mm and 3.12 pounds. Eleven platters. That is what fits inside a 3.5-inch HAMR drive at 4TB each, and it is how WD gets to 44TB in the first half of 2027. Every platter added means tighter mechanical tolerances, thinner disks, and less room for the head stack to settle, which is why platter count climbs so slowly compared to areal density.

The 40TB UltraSMR drive shipping today gets there a different way, with ePMR plus shingled recording rather than heat-assisted media. Different physics, similar capacity, and very different write behavior.

The number WD wants you to watch is not capacity at all. It is bandwidth: 8x by 2030 on the High Bandwidth Drive, currently sampling with five customers.

Lenovo's ThinkPad P14s Gen 7 packs NVIDIA's RTX PRO 1000 Blackwell and Intel's new Panther Lake Core Ultra 7 into 3.6 pounds. In our lab it rendered 29% faster than last year's model, ran nearly 16 hours on battery, and the LPCAMM2 memory swaps like a module instead of being soldered down, up to 96GB. KIOXIA's first PCIe 6.0 enterprise SSD, with the whole CM10 family in one shot. The two upright drives are the 2.5-inch model, which stays on PCIe 5.0 and generation 8 memory. The flat cards are the EDSFF versions, E3.S and E1.S, one wearing the finned heatsink you'd run in an air-cooled chassis.

The PCIe 6.0 models use 332-layer BiCS FLASH generation 10 TLC and scale to 61.44TB. KIOXIA claims up to 92% higher sequential read than the CM9. E3.S and 9.5mm E1.S also support cold-plate liquid cooling.

Sampling to select customers now, on display at FMS in Santa Clara August 4 to 6.
