Their commitment to giving back to the communities they serve is truly inspiring, and we are honored to be one of the organizations they chose to support. Every dollar helps us continue creating meaningful opportunities, resources, and inclusive experiences for autistic individuals and their families.
To everyone at Neighborly, thank you for believing in our mission and investing in the families we serve. Your generosity is making a real difference, and we couldnβt do this work without community partners like you.

βοΈ Thunderstorms can be especially overwhelming for children with autism. The loud thunder, bright flashes of lightning, changes in air pressure, and disruption to routines can all lead to increased anxiety or sensory overload.
If storms are in the forecast, here are a few ways to help your child feel safe and supported:
π Let them know a storm is coming before it arrives so they have time to prepare.
π§ Offer noise-canceling headphones or let them wear their favorite comfort items.
π Create a cozy, calming space with blankets, pillows, dim lighting, or sensory tools.
π± Use visual schedules or social stories to explain what thunderstorms are and reassure them that they will pass.
π Practice calming strategies together, such as deep breathing, fidget toys, or listening to calming music.
β€οΈ Most importantly, stay calm yourself. Your reassurance and steady presence can help your child feel more secure.
Every child experiences storms differently, and thatβs okay. What helps one child may not help another. The key is finding what makes your child feel safe, understood, and supported.
π¬ What strategies have worked for your family during thunderstorms? Share your tips in the comments, you never know who you might help today.

Huge congratulations from us at EmPath For Autism to the team at Lakota Family YMCA!
ππ»ππ»ππ»πππππ»ππ»ππ»
Not only has our partnership providing adaptive swim sessions been a success with one session a week, but the demand was so overwhelming that you added another session and it filled up, too!
That is not only a win for the families and for the Y, itβs a powerful testament to the deep need for inclusive, accessible programs in our community.
Because of your dedication, vision, and heart, so many children are receiving free, one-on-one instruction, and families now have a safe, supportive, and joyful environment to build confidence, learn vital water safety skills, and simply have fun!
Thank you, Lakota Family YMCA, for listening to the needs of our community, dreaming big, and diving in headfirst to make a splash! The impact of this partnership is going to create a ripple effect for a long time to come.
Hereβs to making waves, breaking barriers, and creating a more inclusive community for everyone!
Love everybody π
