Adrian Bybee Coaching
The Premier Fatherhood Coach - Transforming Former Athletes into Herculean Fathers

They Can't Eat You is one of those books that is just as amazing read the next time as it was the first time.
One thing that this time around just means a little more to me is number 46 - Be Willing to Fail Fast
"The entrepreneur who has failed possesses two necessary qualities - willingness to take risks and courage to live with the consequences of those results. Failure is a great part of the journey. If you don't embrace that notion, you are fooling yourself."
I love this for more than just the reason of being an entrepreneur but it has applied to my life as an athlete, a father, and a leader.
How many of us are truly fooling ourselves by not embracing the notion of failing. Now one thing to note on this that I love what Marc says is the time he spends on a failure.
He said "The key to overcoming failure is not to wallow in it for more time than you need - for me that is somewhere around thirty minutes - because any longer than that just wastes precious time. You paid for that failure, so you may as well take that knowledge and do something much greater with it than feeling sorry for yourself."
As an athlete that struggled with transitioning out of sports and full honesty, I wallowed in my failure of not making it to the NFL on and off for 6 years. After that though I did take that knowledge to do something greater.
Being a father and leader is no different but now I have learned to apply the 30 minutes or less rule to those aspects of my life.
So I would encourage you all to do the same.
Fail. And Fail Fast and then grow from it.

Three daily habits as former athlete that I have maintained to have MASSIVE improvements to my life and business post-sports.
But first, I used to think I had to hustle constantly, it just that athlete life where we hustled from thing to thing and from one drill to the next. Now I realize that it was my Lack Mindset that was telling me I didn't deserve success unless I was exhausted and burned out all the time. LIES!
Now I create with calm. I am in flow more than I ever have been, and I have a system when things pop up or challenge my status that helps me keep my peace (even when stuff hits the wall )
1. I get 8 hours of sleep.
Simple? Not exactly. With a 16 months old that has never slept solid through the night this has become my biggest challenge the past year. My 8 hours aren't consistent (not for lack of trying!) but crazy stuff happens. Most of the times its my son but often times I need to work late or wake up early to work.
But no matter what I am not getting less than 8 hours of sleep. Sometimes it means i am getting up at 7 am or 7:30 am or getting to bed earlier. But I am giving myself the recharge needed for the revolution.
2. Water and Workout
Once an athlete always an athlete. If you are like me, you might have spent over 20 years developing your athletic skills and working to the pinnacle of your sport. Your body craves that movement so in your Post-Sports days you need to feed it. I drink a lot of water throughout the day 120 oz but it is the combination of workout and water intake that keeps my energy level high.
3. Taking fun breaks
To be honest, I'm too serious but I love to have fun. And I realized my most stressful days weren't the ones where the most stressful things happened. They were the ones where I wasn't having FUN.
So now I schedule breaks where I can play for a 5 minutes in the middle of the workday (work from home is awesome for that) with my kids. I will text something to a friend. I will watch standup comedy or something silly (I avoid reels because they are less satisfying than watching something longer forms - it's science!). I will even scroll through old photos and videos to remind myself of a vacation or something my cat did!
Anyway, hope this is helpful for you guys
Let me know below what you have started to incorporate lately that is making a big difference for you!

Hey my former athletes out there.
I hear from a lot of former athletes, that transitioning out of sports was tough. They thought they were prepared for it, but quickly found out that they weren't ready at all.
So is it any surprise to learn that 57% of former collegiate or professional athlete like yourself had a negative transition out of sports.
You see the problem with being an elite athlete is finding a professional career that will be able to fill the void that leaving your sport causes.
It's a complete change of pace, structure and everything else we were use to. Now we have to navigate our professional careers putting our dominate skill set we were use to (our athletic ability) and replacing it with our intangible skill set.
BUT good news we have an extremally strong skill set if we just learn how to properly apply it in order to to become a high-impact leader in any field.
Thought this could help.
1. Structure your day
We are use to structure, time blocking, dedicated time for certain areas of training, practice, film study, strength and condition, eating. Do the same thing now.
2. Leverage your athletic mindset and skills
Tap into your athletic mindset and skills cultivated during your athletic career. As a former athlete, you possess traits such as discipline, resilience, teamwork, and goal-setting. Find out how to use these attributes to your advantage and apply them to your current professional environment and to make a positive impact.
3. Leadership and Authority
Know the difference between Leadership and Authority and how to identify the areas in your current work where you can make the most significant impact as a leader. Reflect on your strengths, passions, and the needs of your organization or team. Whether it's fostering collaboration, motivating others, or driving innovation, find your leadership niche and focus on cultivating your skills in that area.
4. Goals and Growth-Oriented
You are great at setting and working towards those goals. Every team set the goal to win their conference, didn't matter how you finished last year. Don't let the nay sayers question your goals. Have a willingness to learn and to change.
I'm hosting an exclusive LIVE Masterclass at the end of the month where I will share the exact framework I used and developed to fill the void left by sports and put me on a path to make my first million dollars.
It's going to be a 90-minute tell-all but limited to only 50 attendees, ensuring an intimate and immersive experience. Don't miss your chance to be part of this transformative event.
If you're interested in securing one of the limited spots, simply type MASTERCLASS below, and I'll send you a link to reserve your spot. Be Impactful! 😎
