After a full week of hosting I used to wake up at 2am wide awake with nothing wrong. I finally understood what was happening. Your nervous system doesn’t clock out just because the weekend does. It needs a signal. This is mine.

I’m 48 and I genuinely did not know how to do nothing

I’m 48 and these three changes made more of a difference than anything else I tried in my 40s:

1. I stopped pathologizing my irritability and started listening to it. Once I stopped trying to manage it away, I realized it was actually showing me where my boundaries were too loose. That irritability? It was data. It helped me take up more space, say no faster, and stop shrinking myself to keep the peace.

2. Getting my magnesium levels right quietly fixed things I didn’t even know were connected. I didn’t realize how much I had normalized feeling on edge until I got consistent with my magnesium and that baseline just lifted. More grounded, less pain, easier to come back to myself when things got hard. I didn’t know I could feel that at ease in my own body. I stretch before and after every flight, no exceptions
