All you ever wanted to know about Chicago common brick in one short video. Enjoy!
Ask Geoffrey: What’s the History of Chicago Common Brick? Chicago’s brick buildings put on a refined face for the street side, but if you peek past the facade, you’ll find that what’s holding them up is a little bit rougher. Geoffrey Baer has this history of the Chicago common brick.

A sea of shoring in what will become a lecture hall. The existing masonry bearing wall has been removed and the new structural steel is in place at our Buena Park Historic District project. This is an adaptive reuse project of a 1917 mansion designed by prominent Chicago architects, the Doerr Brothers. The new owners, a book publisher, will reposition the historic mansion to provide a community-oriented lecture hall, library, and offices. @ Buena Park

We are getting ready to bid an exciting speculative single family home in the Graceland West, a leafy neighborhood within Ravenswood. We intend on enhancing the original charm visible from the street. In addition, we propose a full modernization of the interior of the home which includes an addition, nearly doubling the square footage. We included a before shot in the second image to show the exterior transformation we are proposing. @ Ravenswood, Chicago

An exterior elevation rendering for our food and product photography studio project. The new studio will be located in an existing one-story masonry bowtruss building which previously served as a warehouse for industrial weighing scales. In this view, we are able to see two north facing sawtooth skylights which bring even and diffuse light into the space below and help create an ideal environment for photography. Facing the street, insulated garage doors allow for easy movement of equipment in and out of the space. Still more come! @ Chicago, Illinois

It's not your imagination, its getting more expensive to build. The cost of plywood has gone up 33.9% from last year and framing lumber is up 27.1%.This doesn't necessarily make your planned construction project out of reach, it simply means your design team needs to be more creative in how they approach your project.
Prices for Wood, Other Construction Materials Far Outpace Other Commodities The Bureau of Labor Statistics' latest PPI report shows annual price hikes of as much as 27 percent.
