The biggest problem isn’t whether facilities exist. It’s whether people can reach and actually receive care.
Think about someone in rural Abuja who can access a PHC because of who they know, versus someone in a remote desert with no facility at all. Even when a PHC is nearby, are patients getting the attention and quality care they need?

Health isn't just what happens at facilities, there SHOULD be a community component
As healthcare professionals, we often forget the impact of having a health committee in BOTH rural AND urban PHCs.
If we don't take cognizance of this, that little distraction for a few minutes could be catastrophic.

She came in with sudden chest pain. A triage nurse recorded the wrong type of aneurysm, and that mistake was pasted into every note. By the time anyone checked her chest properly, the aorta had torn. Mrs Francis’s story reflects the real cost of poor records and broken systems in rural healthcare.

It's no longer news that a disease outbreak in one part of the world can quickly become a global concern.
It's a reality we all witnessed just recently with Ebola, Hantavirus, mpox and other disease outbreaks, and because health threats cross borders, sharing knowledge and training strengthens protections everywhere.
This conversation brought together global health professionals alongside our Executive Director, Chinasa Ude Imo, who served as one of the panelists at the Rush University System for Health African Students Association to discuss "The Importance of Analyzing Global Health Systems to Innovate and Create Sustainable Change."
As a community, we'd love to hear from you, what collaborative role should healthcare professionals and institutions take to strengthen systems globally?
Some policies look beautiful on paper.
But in rural health, the real burden is still carried by everyday people.
From out-of-pocket payments to transport costs, lost income, and delayed care, rural communities are paying for more than what shows up in the budget.
