FOSTER HOMES NEEDED!!!

Hunter and Heidi have found a foster home, but Copper and Nala (pic attached) are still in need of a place to land. There are several other hounds we'd love to be able to help, but we need foster homes in order to do so! Fostering can be tough, but it is so very rewarding. And who knows, you might just fall in love and decide to make things permanent!

Apparently today is National Basset Hound Day, so we can't let the day go by without a post to celebrate! This crew of AaRoooo alums is keeping a watchful (and hopeful) eye out for a delivery of extra treats to mark the occasion. 😍Or maybe they're just waiting for a squirrel to yell at. 😂

Temps are supposed to drop significantly here in the Chicago area (and most of the Midwest) overnight and the next few days will be bitterly cold. Please limit outdoor time for your hounds, keep potty breaks short, and keep an eye on paws and ears. Frostbite is no joke, and can happen quickly, especially with snow and ice on the ground! Sweaters or jackets and booties can be helpful, and a warm bed with blankies will be welcome once back inside. Or, if you're like AaRoooo alum June Bug, your own personal pillow fort can help keep you warm!

Now that our area is finally seeing some winter weather, it's a good time for a refresher on winter safety! It's a good idea to regularly check your fences and gates to make sure nothing has blown open in the wind and be aware of snow drifts along fence lines. Bassets may have short legs, but a well placed snow drift might just double as an escape ramp to follow an intriguing scent!

There's some good info here regarding heartworm. Please remember to keep your pets up to date on preventative meds!
