Sharing my family history for Black History Month.
This is my 4th great uncle Bishop Wesley John Gaines. Uncle Wesley was the co founder of Morris Brown College, an HBCU in Atlanta, community leader & bishop. Younger brother of my 4th great granddad Rev William Gaines, they both were born into slavery on the Toombs Plantation in Wilkes County, Georgia. He was sick as a child & secretly taught himself to read (how cool is that?!). He also wrote 2 books. SN: Justice for Morris Brown in “Drumline"!
