Are you taking strategic losses?
I am currently reading Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams. An amazing read!
In the chapter last night, she gave feedback to Mark Zuckerberg that he is so focused on winning that he sometimes loses. "You win the battle but loss the war"
She talks about strategic losses. The willingness to take a loss to win the larger battle.
Not knowing this concept, I took a strategic loss last night.
One of the teams that I am a member on, has been a source of contention for me. The team members are great but the leader is awful. He is reactive and explosive.
I have been slowly pulling myself away from the team but did not want to have a confrontation given his reactive nature.
Last night, i received a message that he felt I was no longer a good fit for the team. π
I politely responded " I agree" and good luck!
A loss but a relief. Given the nature of this leader, leaving with him believing he called the shots was the best outcome.
I could have made it a big deal or brought up how I was out the door anyways.
Instead, I took the "L", removed myself from a toxic situation, and continued on my way.
What strategic losses are you prepared to take to win the war?

Today's CEO+ Plus Call Takeaway:
Are you serving your customers first?
The business economy is different from what it was even last year. Our customers are asking us to serve them differently.
Do you know what your customers really want? Are you asking for feedback from your customers (good or bad)?
A real-life example from my business: For the past five years, I have been providing consulting services to large corporations remotely.
Remote work has fallen out of favor, so to support the changing environment, I am now helping my client two days a week at their location.
How are you PIVOTING to better serve your customers?
Lessons on networking and meeting the "Power Partner"
As a small business owner, I am constantly networking and over the years I have joined many masterminds, and networking groups.
Some lessons learned, if you go into networking trying to meet your future client, you will be disappointed.
I know, I tried this for many years. Going to events, not making the right connections, and getting frustrated.
Recently, I heard this concept of a "Power Partner".
A power partner, is a connection that will introduce you to your future client.
They are not necessarily your client, but they are the matchmaker that will introduce you to your next client. They are well connected and hold relationships with your potential clients.
It is easier to build a relationship with a power partner than a client.
A power partner is familar with business networking and the concept of sharing connections. They mention your name in a room full of people.
I have benefited from power partners over my career. My first client came from a close friend who is also a power partner, who recommended me to a client when they were looking for additional help.
Remember networking is about building relationships and just like friendships, you get out of it what you put in.
Fall is the time for networking.
My Vision for the Chicago Chapter!
There is one chapter that will encompass all of Chicago and the Chicagoland area.
As one chapter, I am committed to rotating luncheons between the city and the suburbs.
I will select locations that are easy to access via highways and provided some version of discounted parking for our commuters.
The chapter is currently holding monthly online Strategic Business Introductions with guest speakers for 10-15 minutes to bring a strategic viewpoint.
The current online SBIs are once per month but as demand increases, I will also increase the frequency.
I will also offer Office Hours on Fridays-virtual to start, where members can connect, ask questions, give feedback, and use the time as best suits their needs.
I am committed to running a community focused on networking, building connections and transparency.
Feedback is requested and appreciated.
Feel free to give suggestion/comments on what would make this Chapter amazing!
