Our final lab of the first blueprinting course.
Teacher mentioned it had to be a custom blueprint
Similar to our previous structural blueprints, but weld locations and size could be different.
Please forgive the awful welds, we had multiple processes running and I believe this was TIG mix on MIG wire.

Alright gents, tear into me. I know nothing about welding. I don’t know any patterns. My gear is hobo freight. I work on a small 70 acre farm and maintain our diesel equipment but have never welded. The little one got a gas powered pocket bike type thing (like they have at TS) but the bolt for the kickstand spring sheered in shipping. I thought to myself that there was no better time to learn. Absolute ass looking I know. If it holds I’m happy! What’re some tips and tricks yall can lend me as I progress into mild metal repairs? Next up, Kubota 72” pro mower deck step!

Teaching myself to weld

Never welded before and bought a Arccaptain MIG200 to learn on. Started with flux core on some 2” black iron pipe and seamed to do really well I think (first picture), but wanted to try gas mig.
I feel like im doing something fundamentally wrong with the gas mig. I triple checked all my setting and they are what’s recommended for the metal thickness by the machine. Its not spattering, but I’m getting terrible pe*******on, and im getting like air bubbles in my puddle? Like big ones that pop and leave holes (pic 2 and 3).
What am i doing wrong? All i can think is the gas is wrong? Suppose to be C25, but bought the bottle from a guy that certifies them, and he said that he put some c25 in it he had kicking around. No sticker on it so no way to verify.
Is that my issue? What else am i doing wrong?
4th pic is my little newb setup lol feel free to Point and laugh.

Does anyone know where to buy a tool like this?My community college metal shop has this tool and I’ve been using it to bend tube for sculptures - the new studio I joined doesn’t have it and looking to get something similar. It has a cradle for 1in, 1.5in, 1 5/8in and 2inches. My teacher mentioned something about being a handmade tool but I’d love to find where to buy something like it! Any help would be great - extra rambling to get to the 400 characters

Hey all, I'm wondering about the best way to keep a couple of pieces of steel support from rusting in an indoor (climate controlled) area that will get some touching from humans (and dogs that may walk by touching it) for as long as possible without having to refinish it. It's a set of supports for a dining room table I'm making and will be about knee height as you sit at the table. The metal is plain steel that has been welded and given a brushed look via sanding. I probably should have done this in stainless, but I was worried about welding stainless so went with regular steel. In any case, I have restoration wax, but I'm not sure that's good for something that will get the occasional touching human hands. I also have some "Carbon Method" which is a new-fangled ceramic coating meant for protecting cast iron table tops (like table saw tops). I've also thought about using a spray clear coat as well.
For now, the parts can be separated so I can easily work on just the steel supports. Once the table is finally put together, I won't be able to separate the supports from the wood without drilling out some wood plugs that cover the bolts (and then refinishing the whole bottom after putting it back together). So something like wax I could pretty easily reapply, but spray finish is harder.
Most of what I've found about protecting metals indoors has been in a tool/shop environment, which uses oils and such which really aren't good for my scenario. Any thoughts? (i'm starting to regret not using stainless more now…)
