I believe when you teach students how to empathize… when you slow down the play and get them to really think about their impact of their actions in advance…They will often choose to shift their behaviors.
How often are you asked a question, but the tone in which you were asked turned you off? I’ve found that when we ask a question from a space of curiosity, it’s received differently…I’ve been the adult asking a question that was often only asked to validate the thought that I already had… and I imagine that the person being asked… knew it.
I absolutely love when students are engaged. When I speak to students while facilitating an SEL (Social Emotional Learning) workshop, it’s critical to not only teach concepts, but to check for understanding…

Today as part of my SEL student training at Jessie White Learning Academy in .5 , I shared an original poem and asked them to listen not for rhyme but for language.
As they listened we identified three patterns that distort meaning in real time (part of my Clarity Model framework)
Assumptions
Exaggerations
Omissions
What stood out was not just the engagement. The oohs and ahhs were real. It was watching students analyze language as it was happening. Naming patterns. Answering questions. Refining their thinking out loud.
This is what it looks like when learning moves from passive to participatory.
When students learn to question meaning before reacting to it they gain clarity. And clarity changes conversations relationships and outcomes.
This is the work.

Post Event Reflection: Building the Bridge to What’s Next
On Tuesday I spent time with 35 dual enrollment students who are standing at the crossroads between who they have been and who they are becoming.
We talked about identity, choices, and designing your future with intention.
These students leaned in, reflected, and reminded me that when young people are given space to grow, they rise.
To and University of Illinois Chicago who invited me, thank you for trusting me to invest in your scholars.
To the students, your future is responding to the decisions you make now. Keep building your bridge one intentional step at a time.
Every moment is an opportunity to Master Your Mind.

Today I had the honor of kicking off a powerful day of learning with the LEGO Academy, created and supported by The Links, Incorporated (South Suburban Chicago Chapter). The room was filled with intention, opportunity, and young leaders who are ready to build their future.
A special thank you to for the invitation and for curating an experience that pours into our youth with love, purpose, and possibility.
When community comes together, growth becomes real. Proud to be a part of today.
