I was going through security line at the airport today wearing a Meshuggah t-shirt and the TSA agent after the metal detector says to me "Did you see them when they were in town?" and I'm like "Hell yes I did" and we had that total metalhead bonding session for like 2 minutes that any metal fan has when they find their own. Metal is a special thing.
Before words. Before the lies of language. Just... the sounds. The sounds the mouth makes all by itself. The breath. The intake. The control. The slow leak. The exhale near the middle. Feels like... damp velvet, that sound. If velvet could shiver.
Layered it all, of course. Couldn't just have one sound. Need the interplay. The dry hiss... ssssss... against a soft hum. Vibrations. Low in the chest. Feel it right here... yes. Resonance. Not melody. Resonance.

I had the best night out tonight seeing Carcass, Cannibal Co**se and Meshuggah in concert right here in my hometown of Boise. I felt like a total kid jumping around like an idiot and giving myself whiplash. Lots of greybeards delivering the sonic fury with finesse and authenticity and love for the craft. An unparalleled level of awesome and inspiration.
