Chicago singer bringing you Chicago style and sound
I have the pleasure of collaborating with the talented Chicago DJ, Danyell Abston on a cover/remix of a classic track by the legendary soul-disco group First Choice. If you know, you know — these ladies were PIONEERS, and their music carries a vibe that is timeless.
Had an incredible time in the studio recently, working on a project that truly pushed me outside my comfort zone — several takes, a lot of talking ish with my ace Fatimah, but I loved every second of it!
This session is challenging me in the best possible way. Their style is rooted in that lush, raw 70s soul-disco sound, and bringing that energy into a modern studio context meant digging deep into my bag of tricks — and then reaching for some new ones I didn’t even know I had! 🎤✨ It stretched my techniques, pushed my range, and reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place — the growth never stops, no matter how long you’ve been doing this.
Stay tuned…let’s see what Lady Danyell has coming.

🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: The Arts Are Not Optional. They Are the Foundation🚨
The Arts are not just decoration, and we artists are not simply a mirror reflecting society's status quo. The Arts are the engine of human connection and the foundation of civilization...and the true calling of the artist is to answer what society needs to advance its premise of humanity. My own journey has been profoundly influenced by great educators such as Professor Brenda J. Jones, Professor Barbara Walton, and Dr. Dennis Raverty, as well as the musical brilliance of the Black community, which demonstrated to me that the Arts are the essential classroom for life.
When I was educated about Rome, known as the “Eternal City” because it was believed that the city would last forever, I was informed that its government does not support the Arts. One of the creative directors of the space stated that most of their contributions for continued operation come from individuals in the expat community. They are literally hanging on by a wing and a prayer!!
📢 Call to Action: Stop treating art as a relic. Start treating it as the vital economic and social asset it is. SUPPORT LIVING ARTISTS with NEW VISION and NEW SOUNDS. Demand that local cities invest in the SOUL of their communities.
