This Transgender History Month, pray to Catholic saints who defied gender norms As we celebrate Transgender History Month, may the trans saints who live among us — and saints of the past two millennia who paved the way — pray for us, Emma Cieslik writes.

"Zagano nevertheless offers a way forward, one grounded in observation about how the church calls forth women's gifts, sound knowledge of church teaching and firm trust in the workings of the Holy Spirit. She offers as a solution the principle of subsidiarity: Entrust local leaders with the power to make the decisions that most directly impact their communities. Subsidiarity could allow bishops in dioceses that need and desire women deacons to proceed with ordaining them; the dioceses which do not would not be required to."

Meet the 2026 Re/Gen cohort: Elizabeth Nawrocki

Elizabeth is a long time seeker of beauty. Raised in the Catholic tradition, Elizabeth went on to receive a Masters of Theological Studies from Loyola University Maryland in 2019. Since then she has done a little bit of a lot of things including community and political organizing, making and occasionally selling a bunch of art, and most prominently helping to run the summer camp and immersion programs at Big Laurel Learning Center in Mingo County, West Virginia.
