At this point the city council is responsible, there’s no excuse. As a leader you cannot say you do not understand or we didn’t know, all members of the council are fiscally responsible.

Please read, review, and support!
Last night, we debated the use of taxpayer dollars for utility, major home repair, and mortgage assistance. I believe municipalities should not cover these costs, as it sets a precedent that could obligate us to a lifetime of general assistance. Alderman DeJuan Gardner articulated this well, emphasizing our role in supporting residents without providing ongoing general assistance. I was NOT allowed to speak but wanted to offer the available funded programs through CEDA, LiHeap, ComED, Nicor, Thornton Township, and the Salvation Army. Normally, home owners have insurance to help with repairs to the home.
The Council meeting was recorded live on the city’s page.
Unfortunately, this discussion wasn’t recorded, raising concerns about transparency. Next week, there will be a meeting to potentially revoke my ability to stream live from my desk. I ask for your support: please sign the petition below and contact your Alderperson and the Mayor’s office by phone or email to advocate for my right to continue streaming from my seat.
Please share this petition so graciously started by a resident of Calumet City.
