Hot For Skippy
Hot For Skippy (2008-2013, IL) fused tech, melodic, & prog metal. Their 2010 "O.C.D." EP hinted at more. Known for intense shows. Their sound lingers.
Future sounds possible? Once upon a time, the members of Hot For Skippy firmly believed that some people are born to play music. From 2008 to 2013, this Westmont, IL-based collective—guitarists Victor Poelman and Jay Alvear, drummer Wayne Pombert II, and vocalist Stefan Stolarik—carved a unique space in the Midwest metal scene with their forward-thinking blend of technicality, melody, and progress

🎶 ! 🎶
Before the big stages and streaming platforms, there was Wayne's basement. That's where the magic happened for Hot For Skippy's drummer Wayne and guitarist Jay! 🥁🎸
They spent countless hours down there, honing their craft, writing tunes like "Bear Goes Home Hungry Tonight," and making a ton of memories. It wasn't just practice; it was a space filled with creativity, laughter, and the pure joy of making music together. So much fun was had creating the music you all love!
Who else has fond memories of jamming with friends in a basement or garage?

to the unique challenge that was... Hot For Skippy band picture day! 📸😂
Seriously, trying to get a group of us to stand still, look remotely serious, or pull off that "cool band" pose for more than 0.5 seconds was next level difficult.
Why? Because we were always having WAY too much fun! 😂 Someone was always cracking a joke, making a stupid face, or starting some shenanigan right when the camera was about to click.
We might have eventually gotten a few usable shots here and there, but let's be honest – the outtakes and the memories of just goofing off were always the best part.
Maybe some of that chaotic energy made its way into the music? 😉 You can find Hot For Skippy on all major streaming platforms – go give us a listen and relive some tunes! 🎧
Fellow bands, tell us we weren't alone! Was getting serious band photos taken a nightmare for you too, or were you actually professionals about it?

Who remembers a venue down in Steger, IL called Another Hole In The Wall? 🤘
We had some memorable Hot For Skippy shows there back in the day. Maybe not the best location (ha!), but definitely some fun times on that stage. We booked those gigs through Xeonlive Management – remember working with Darlene to get those dates locked in!
That venue also holds a less-than-fond memory... it's where our drummer's cymbals got stolen right during load-out! 😡 That sucked big time and hit the wallet pretty hard.
BUT, on a much brighter note, it wasn't all bad! Another Hole In The Wall was also the place where we first met the guys in Hemlock! Seriously cool dudes with awesome personalities – running into them was definitely a highlight of playing there. Crazy how connections happen!
Anyone else ever play or catch a show at Another Hole In The Wall back then?

Throwback Thursday! 🤘
Back in the day, Hot For Skippy was stoked to hit the road and play out-of-state shows. One that sticks out was Turley Fest 09 in Kokomo, IN!
We played at the Kokomo Event Center on Saturday, September 26th, 2009. It was an interesting experience sharing the stage with a wild mix of local bands we'd never heard before. It was cool to jam with the dudes from Ideamen! Their progressive sound definitely left an impression.
Looking back at this flyer brings back some memories! Anyone else remember any other unexpected genre mashups at local gigs?
Get ready! 🔥 A track lost in time is finally seeing the light! Hot For Skippy's previously unreleased single, "Reina Del Sol" featuring the Ezra Garcia, will be unleashed on all major streaming platforms on May 30th! This one has been waiting for its moment, and it's almost here. Mark your calendars and prepare yourselves! 🤘

! Who remembers Hot For Skippy battling it out back in the day? 🤘 We clawed our way to the finals in the Battle of the Bands!
One of the iconic venues hosting those finals was Stage 83 in Lemont. Selling tickets was WORK, but playing that stage was always epic. Those shows, often put on by Gorilla Productions (still going?), definitely helped us book gigs later on, even taking us out to Cleveland!
Stage 83 was a blast outside the competitions too. Shame it became the Jaguar Club and eventually closed. Let's be real, Stage 83 was the OG spot! 😂
Big question for the locals: Did you ever hang out at Stage 83 back then? What shows did you see there?
