Dr. Amanda Schalk of University of Illinois Chicago develops new and improved cancer-fighting enzymes. Our bodies already employ cancer-fighting proteins. Dr. Schalk engineers ways to make those proteins more effective with fewer side effects.

Dr. Schalk is co-founder of Enzyme by Design which improves existing enzyme-based therapies for blood and solid tumors. Using biomarkers and , they can predict which enzyme therapies will be most successful.
