I've been an advocate of multiple voting platforms all my life - early voting downtown and in the wards, voting by mail, and robust voter outreach, I told the press this morning.
"I'd rather lose an election with 100% turnout than win one with 20%.''

In the wake of the Tyre Nichols video, I was heartened to hear Rev.Jesse Jackson mention police reform as something all cities must accomplish.
I worked 7 years to get police reform, civilian oversight and accountability passed - over the objections of Mayor Lightfoot.
When you vote this year you will elect candidates to 22 newly created Police District Councils That is the product of my fight for reform.
A reformed police department is a stronger department.

Thank you CFL and President Reiter
As we get ready to pull out our grills or hit the beach on Independence Day, let’s remember our firework safety practices. We must be mindful of our neighbors and families who are affected by the noise that comes from igniting fireworks. We want everyone to enjoy the holiday, so let’s protect our communities by ensuring a safe and fun holiday for all.

After a busy day at Council, introducing both the Peace Book ordinance and re-introducing the Office of Gun Violence Prevention (now Office of Neighborhood Safety), it was my pleasure to meet Gabby Giffords at an event hosted by David Axelrod and Arne Duncan highlighting Giffords work on reducing gun violence across America.
Thank you family for the father's day love

As we celebrate both Father's Day and Juneteenth today. We pay homage to the Father's in our lives, and to the Father figures. We celebrate the independence of African descendants of slaves. We celebrate our black ancestors who in Galveston, Texas even after the Emancipation Proclamation still weren't free. We celebrate them everyday, but especially today. Happy Father's Day and Happy Juneteenth.
