Twin Energy continues my ongoing exploration of representation and visibility within popular culture.
I’m always working to intentionally position blackness within a visual vocabulary historically dominated by nonblack ideals of joy, beauty, and peace. These works create space for our tones, our presence, and our narratives to bloom openly and free of stereotypes.
This sketch began as a single mirrored sketch, randomly sparked by a Twin Energy Pokémon card I randomly saw online. That playful reference opened a deeper conversation in my mind around duality, mutual recognition, and alignment. The paired flowers represent two paths converging. Two identities, two energies, and two lives in synchronicity. They point to kinship, reflection, and the power of seeing yourself in someone else. Or simply finding someone that matches you in a meaningful way. Twin.

I want to thank for having me another year. Big shoutout to my dude . I’m not sure if the world realizes how much he does to hold his part of the culture together and keep things pushing forward.
Ghetto Superstar is more than an exhibit or a project. It’s kind of my whole mood right now.
We don’t talk about this enough on a grand scale, but if you make a living in a creative space or a retail space or anything adjacent, everything isn’t as dynamic as it used to be. Translation: ain’t no money out here like it once was because the economy is fu**ed up.
But with me, I’m thankful I still have my practice. I’m thankful I still have enough energy to fight. I’m thankful that the stress hasn’t turned my hair gray.
That’s what this whole project is about. S**t crashing, predictions being wrong, but somehow you still get up and figure it out. You still make it work. You’re still a star. You use all the tools you have, even some you don’t. It took a whole bunch of ugly stuff for you to get here, but you got here.
My journey as an artist has always been centered around being self taught, resilient, and doing 15 jobs by myself. With the current market and economy, I’m feeling that stress of being overworked and pulled in 47 directions. But I still try to get up and look good, baby. You know I still try to win no matter what.
I don’t really know how to end this. I feel like it’s more of a rant than an artist statement anyway…..
See you at ComplexCon.

Commission for my dawg from 2023 that I never got to post. Probably one of my favorite creations ever. The statue was intended to “fly” from his ceiling.

A Cherry for a Fallen Tiger:
David was my student and a lil brother. My goal for anybody that I teach or mentor is never to make them the next me. It’s to give them the tools to become a better version of themselves. My style of teaching is similar to a football coach. It’s firm, strong, and intentional. It’s designed to push you to your boundaries and make you stronger. Not to harden you, but to build your foundation. It’s tactical, strategic, and rooted in love.
Fun fact: he was the last person we brought on board and hired at Fat Tiger, which also made him the first person I hired to work with me and Kayla at Cherry Mountain. That says a lot about how much I believed in him. He was talented, charismatic, and always willing to learn. But more than that, he had his own quiet sense of drive. You could see it in the way he listened, the way he processed information, and the way he showed up.
We talked about art, life, and what it means to stand in your purpose. I appreciated how he carried himself with integrity. His humility and creativity will always echo in the spaces he touched.
As we approach the anniversary of his passing, I just want to say thank you and we love you, David. Thank you for trusting me, for letting me teach you, and for teaching me in return. Thank you for the connection. You’ll always be part of my journey, and your spirit will always live on in every young artist who walks through Cherry Mountain’s doors.
