Unpacking inherited beliefs about religion, society, and self through literature and lived experience ✨

We've been working on this drop for months, and we're incredibly excited it's here now 💛

A second clue is now available for the first six archives!

I’ve been reading quite a bit of historical fiction lately, and one of the characters dropped out of school at 16 to get married and have a child. She loved her child but was never happy in her marriage. Deeply unhappy in her life, but people often talked about how she had the “perfect” life because she was married and had a child.

I feel for women who share this experience because they felt like they didn’t have a choice. I have a deep appreciation for women who choose differently for themselves, who choose themselves. I learn so much from y’all.

We have to value a child’s safety more than their obedience. A child’s “disobedience” is not a valid invitation for an adult’s assault.

I don’t care what “time” you grew up in or what your parents did to you. Success doesn’t justify trauma, and being “old school” doesn’t justify abuse.

We should all deconstruct at some point.

Let’s also talk about how religion often influences how folks parent their children, and how it’s often used to justify violence against children.

The doctrine influences the culture, and the culture influences how people show up in the world and how they treat others. If the doctrine is violent, homophobic, transphobic, and misogynistic the people will be as well.
It’s all connected, and nothing exists in a vacuum.

This video cause a bit of a stir on YouTube shorts. It's always fascinating seeing how folks respond to me sharing my lived experiences and observations within the church, and my challenges of the doctrine many of us are taught to believe.

I have those people who lean in with curiosity, who will share their experiences and I have those people who try to antagonize and push their beliefs. It's interesting noticing the trends between these two groups.
