This song is about the last time I was truly in love.
The last time I looked at wedding rings, showed up to family events, and really thought about forever with someone.
Back then, when I was away on ships, I’d be celebrating in beautiful places… but missing home. I missed her. I missed being in the room. I missed the life we were building.
And it wasn’t just about us.
I missed my family in Chicago.
I missed my grandmother.
I missed my aunties, uncles, and cousins — some of whom are no longer here.
Her dad was from Nassau, and the way her family came together for those South Carolina Christmas parties felt rich, warm, and full of love. I’d be somewhere like Aruba with friends, smiling… but wishing I could be there with them — and with mine.
That’s why the lyric says, “the memory’s alive with me and you.”
Even when people are gone — through distance, time, or loss — the love doesn’t disappear.
This song is about acceptance.
About honoring what was real.
And learning to cherish memories without living in the past.
I pray this finds anyone missing someone this season. 🎄✨
