Update! Remember the video from our last post? A neighbor was able to work with the landlord and Chicago Furniture Bank and the family just sent a video of their new apartment. Thank you to everyone who pitched in. This was definitely one that was keeping us up at night. We continue to get requests for help. If you appreciate the work we do, please consider donating to sustain it -

We have raised just over $1000 to go towards this family’s new apartment space and will complete the remaining $2000 needed (covering first months rent and deposit) from our general fund. Thank you to all who have contributed! If you would like to help us restock our general fund so we are ready to support the next family in need, all donations are tax deductible. We’re fundraising to help a Venezuelan family we know escape a desperate living situation. Two adults and six children are currently living in this basement apartment, with a baby joining them soon. We’re sharing the short video so you can better understand the conditions they’re facing.

The family has found a safe apartment to move into, but they need help covering the upfront costs: $1,500 for the security deposit and $1,500 for the first month’s rent. While they do not have this cash on hand, both adults have jobs and will be able to pick up the payments in the second month. (The baby joining the family is not from the mother, so she will not have any interruption to her work.)

Please consider donating or sharing. Your kindness can help a family without a support system in this country find safety and stability for their children. As they overcome their many challenges, your support means they will be able to remain together.

(If we raise more than they are requesting at this time, donations will roll over into our general fund to support this family and others as needed.)

Anyone able to purchase and drop this off to a family in the neighborhood?

Neighbors, what a beautiful year. 💚

Because of you, the West Ridge Community Response Team raised over $15,000, and even more through direct acts of care, every dollar and every effort poured straight into each other.

This year, that care looked like:
• 28 utility bills paid so neighbors could keep the lights on and heat running
• $8,000 in immigration support, including groceries after deportations, attorney fees, school coordination, and ICE Watch trainings
• Direct support for families navigating CPS, new immigrant neighbors finding their footing, groceries and deliveries for those afraid to leave home, housing for families, and funeral costs for a young man
• Youth engagement, working directly with neighborhood teens and compensating them for their leadership
• Resource events—from winter gear distribution and food drives to supporting trans youth and simply spreading joy and connection

This is what it looks like when neighbors are connected. This is what it means to believe, deeply, that everyone deserves to have their basic needs met.

Thank you for showing up with love, trust, and generosity. As we head into 2025, we hope you feel grounded in gratitude and full of hope.

If you had the chance, would you help your neighbor? 💫

(Thanks to our fiscal sponsor, we have no overhead and your full donation goes directly to neighbors in need and is elegible for tax deduction and employer match).
