This is the car that started my life long fascination with Volkswagen and it's cars. I grew up riding in this car. I drove the car all through high school.

This particular model, a 1969 Beetle (technically VW never called it the Beetle, it was the "Sedan"), was originally sold to my parents in February of 1969. They bought it from a VW dealership in nearby Riverside, California, Economotors. For those of you not into the VW scene, Econo is the dealership that created probably the most influential manufacturer of aftermarket parts for the VW and dune

Big plans are ahead for the WyoLook ! Today my buddy Jacob, my brother, and I were able to get the engine to start but it appears that the carb is going to need to gone through, as it was running rough and the fuel was pouring out. This is step one to getting her running reliably. In the future we've got plans to install the 2" narrowed beam and get her roadworthy again.

Also part of our discussion is how we are planning on getting Thin Air Dub Club active again! Looking forward to what is in the works here in SE Wyoming!

For the first time in over 12 years, the WyoLook Bug is once again my transportation to work! The last time I drove her to work, I was living in southern California. Ever since that day, I've wanted to get her back in the commuting duty and now she is back!

Just got back from gassing her up so we can attend the Thin Air Dub Club meet tomorrow. This will be the first time the WyoLook Bug has been to one of our meets! So excited!

They say if you can't park your car and as you walk away, you have to turn around and admire her, you have a great car. I have a great car.

The WyoLook Bug had its first trip to the gas station in over 11 years! Filled up the tank and took a little longer trip home. Felt so good to have her back on the road! She has been missed!

My five year old grandson's smile is just the best way to share my delight in that the WyoLook Bug is running! I had hoped to get it running last week so that I could drive it to a local car show, but thanks to a failed fuel pump, I wasn't able to make it.

Thanks to a buddy in nearby Cheyenne WY, I was able to secure a fuel pump earlier this week. Later that day I installed the pump, primed the carb, and she came to life! I was able to drive her around the block a few times. There was a small hiccup with a wire that came disconnected from the coil, but that was easily fixable.

She is running quite rough, so she is in need of tuning. Right now, the carb is still tuned for about 1200 ft altitude, so she will be needed to be tuned for Laramie's 7200 ft. I also need to take a look at the brakes, as they work but the pedal has a lot of travel before they engage.

It feels so great to drive her again and look forward to sharing more photos and adventures as she is driven!

Good weather made it a good time to let the WyoLook Bug come out and get cleaned. Now it is time to clean out the trunk and get her ready for the refreshed fuel tank!

During today's afternoon rain storm, I was able to get out in the garage and remove the fuel tank out. I had replaced the tank many, many moons ago (on the magnitude of probably at least two decades ago). So as I unbolted the tank brackets, I remembered the difficulties I had with putting it in the first time. The tank is a bit wide for the trunk, so it took a little creative maneuvering to get it out.

So what did I find? Well after getting the tank free, I flipped the tank up on its side. I took the fuel tap (the pipe that comes out of the bottom of the tank) out and made a not great discovery. The old fuel in the tank has started to gel up. You can see the gelling in the photos of the tank and tap attached.

The next step is that I'm going to have to take the fuel tank to a radiator shop to have it properly cleaned out, I am going to need to locate and replace the rubbers hoses that connect the filler to the tank, and give the trunk area a good cleaning. My goal is to get the trunk paint looking a bit more presentable and not to have gas fumes again!

"Opa I want to sit in your Bug!" My grandson was all smiles because I let him sit in the Bug today!
