The reminds families, caregivers, and communities that awareness and conversation are key to prevention. Older Americans lost more than $4.8 billion to fraud in 2024, according to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). Scammers commonly target seniors through tech support scams, romance scams, phishing messages, and fake investment opportunities.

A request for an unusual form of payment can be one of the clearest signs of a potential fraud attempt. Scammers often try to get money through methods that are fast, hard to reverse and difficult to track. They may ask for gift cards, cryptocurrency, gold bars or payment through peer-to-peer apps like Zelle and Venmo. Be wary of unusual payment requests like these and save this post to refer to later.

🚨SCAM ALERT: Fraudulent Court Notice Circulating
The Cheyenne Police Department is aware of a fraudulent “court enforcement” notice being shared and received by members of the public. This document is not an official notice from the courts or law enforcement. It appears to be a scam designed to pressure recipients into making payments or scanning suspicious QR codes.
Please remember:
• Do not scan unknown QR codes
• Do not send payments based on unsolicited notices
• Verify court matters directly through official court contacts
• Report suspicious activity to local law enforcement
Scammers often use official-looking logos, court names, and urgent language to appear legitimate. If you receive a notice like this and are unsure, contact the appropriate agency directly using publicly listed phone numbers or websites.
