What if...

02/07/2026

Check out this photo I captured earlier this month!

Delta Kappa Gamma, Upsilon Chapter, is officially collecting book donations! Every day from 10 AM to about 4 PM and until March 1, 2026, they will be collecting books for the 42nd Annual Used Book Sale at the former JoAnn in Frontier Mall.

Here's a 360 photo of the soon-to-be book sale space as of the first official day of collecting book donations; if you haven't seen a 360 degree panoramic photo before, I suggest slowly moving your mobile device around to see it; alternatively, if you are viewing on a PC or mobile device, you can also click-and-hold and drag the image around to see what's happening.

As of the first day of collecting book donations, you can drop books off via the back loading bay door between Bomgaars and Appliance Factory, OR you can enter the JoAnn space from inside Frontier Mall.

Unfortunate News. Starting next month, no new TRP photos will be uploaded to Shutterstock. Existing photos will still be available for licensing, but no new content will be posted unless Shutterstock changes their way and I feel obliged to start uploading again.

In recent weeks, Shutterstock has been placing increased emphasis on data training sets. While I support ethical means of sourcing training data for fAke models, I'd like to avoid having my content be used for training data in what few ways I can. With my recent two uploads of 20 per upload (40 total photos), only approximately 30% were approved for normal licensing; the other 70% were approved only for data licensing... which is opted out at this point in time.

It's not worth it to post there anymore if my photos will just go unused. I started TRP to ensure my photos didn't sit on a hard drive collecting dust, and photos that only get approved for data licensing are invisible to everyone, even me, unless I opt in (which I don't). This defeats my whole purpose in uploading and simply wastes my time.

In spite of this recent development, I'm proud to say that TRP content has appeared all across the world, featured on TV comedy shows like Stephen Colbert's, YouTube educational channels like Company Man and Wendover Productions, in hundreds if not thousands of news articles, and even in city project planning documents. My content has easily seen over a million views, and I'd wager it's well into the millions of eyes that have seen my stuff at this point.

The TRP catalog recently crossed 3,500 licensable photos and 30 licensable video clips. It includes hundreds of businesses across Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska, mostly captured on cameras not typically deemed "professional," though a few video clips were captured on the DSLR 80D.

July 2025 will be the last time for the monthly new uploads montage series (unless most if not all my content starts being approved for traditional licensing again AND I want to upload again). I may still post some photos/montages, but that's about it for now. Sadly, this leaves the future of TRP uncertain, and I don't know what's next. Sorry.

S i g n i f i c a n c e
No idea which of these first two photos touched the line, but both were the last oomph that brought the line in focus and snapped the moment yesterday, Nov 7th; the third photo pushed TRP beyond the line today, Nov 8th.
Throughout the last 4 years, sooo many outlets have licensed photos for editorial use via Retail Photographer on Shutterstock. TRP's editorial photos (and videos) have appeared everywhere from local news publications to major TV live-performance comedy shows, and even in discussionary/documentary-style videos from well-known YouTubers and social media users.
There are still many retail establishments that could and should one day be featured on TRP, but nonetheless, TRP has greatly expanded the availability of licenseable photography of places including and not limited to Spirit Halloween, Maverik (gas station), and Taco John's. Local shops like Two Doors Down and Cheyenne City Drug even currently have licenseable photos available, in some cases documenting things and events that nobody else ever will likely make available on Shutterstock, certainly not anytime soon.
When TRP was first created, it was never with anticipation that things would even come nearly as far as they have... let's go first person. I created TRP for two reasons: 1) Ensure my photos don't sit around collecting dust, and 2) Provide an alternate means to further support my journey through urban exploration and documenting retail history. I feel I've been successful in these two goals and intend to continue the TRP leg of this journey.
This journey has encouraged me to learn things I never had a clue existed. This journey forced me to realize it wasn't my gear limiting my ability to capture photos and videos; rather, it was mostly my skill and understanding of my gear. I thought I'd be lucky to have twenty-ish photos approved, one download, and maybe five bucks. I never dreamed that my photos would appear in well-known outlets like the Late Night Show, EatThis,NotThat!, and Mashed. Here we are four years later, and things are still chugging a long. Cheers!
