In a commitment to enhancing public safety and emergency preparedness, Chester Volunteer Fire Department recently collaborated with Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department in a specialized ice water rescue training session.

This invaluable exchange of knowledge and techniques highlights the importance of cross department collaboration and tackling the unique challenges posed by ice water rescues.

This training focused on victim retrieval techniques in icy conditions.

Both departments engaged in realistic hands-on scenarios that simulated the hazards and urgencies of real life Ice water emergencies.

The training ensures that each department is better equipped to handle ice water rescues safely and efficiently.

Chester Volunteer Fire Department and Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department are excited to continue their partnership and look forward to more opportunities for joint training together.

Last night at approx 1740hrs Chester,Lawrenceville and Newell Fire departments were dispatched to the 200 block of Indiana Avenue and Alley G for a reported structure fire. Initially dispatch reported that there was a possible entrapment in the house. Due to the calls from dispatch and radio transmissions of heavy smoke New Cumberland Fire department was called to assist. Liverpool Twp from Ohio came over to cover the city of any other emergencies. Upon arrival crews were met with heavy smoke and fire coming from a second story window. Prior to crews arrival there was a small partial roof collapse. Crews from all departments made an aggressive interior attack and search of the house. No one was found during the search and it was confirmed ALL occupants made it out of the house safely. Crews were on scene for approximately three hours before safely returning to their stations. Thank you to all Fire departments, Chester PD, Hancock County Sheriff Office, Hancock County Sheriff Reserves and to the residents near that fire that helped.
