MEET THE PANELIST: Hope Huskey is the Associate Director of the Sequoyah Fund, a native Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), located in Cherokee, NC. After studying literature at UNC Asheville, Hope returned to Cherokee to work for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. In 2010, she completed her master’s degree in Project Management at Western Carolina University. Since 2012, Hope has cultivated Sequoyah Fund’s youth entrepreneurship program, developed the Authentically Cherokee brand for Cherokee artists, and created a financial wellness program that helps EBCI members with personal credit and finances. She serves on the Board of Directors for the EBCI’s Investment Committee, Mainspring Conservation Trust, Jackson County Arts Council, and the Center for Craft.
In 2017, Hope received the “Native American 40 Under 40” award from NCAIED - National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development. An enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Hope lives in Sylva, NC with her daughter and two overindulged Boston Terriers.

We're excited to be selected for the SBA Community Navigator Pilot Program! This grant will build on much of the work the Native CDFI community is doing to support Native businesses and entrepreneurs across the country. Following a creative "hub-and-spoke" model, Oweesta will act as a "hub" bringing together 27 Native CDFIs as "spokes." Together and with support from MoFi, we'll provide additional business management training and technical assistance Native small businesses. We're proud to partner with Native CDFIs, MoFi, and U.S. Small Business Administration!

The Office of the Principal Chief is now taking applications for 4 food truck vendors at the 2022 Kituwah Celebration on May 21, 2022. The owner of the food truck must be an enrolled member of the E.B.C.I. or the spouse of an enrolled member of the E.B.C.I. to be entered into the Food Truck Drawing for this event. Applications can be picked up at the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds from Lisa Frady. All applications are due Friday, March 25, 2022, by 4:00pm. The Sequoyah Fund will be sponsoring a new Toastmasters Club that will meet regularly in Cherokee.
Toastmasters International is an organization dedicated to helping members improve public speaking skills, build leadership skills, and network with others in a small, supportive environment.

The club will be open to anyone and has no age limit.
Sequoyah Fund will pay the first year’s membership fee for all charter club members.

The first meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 17. It will be a “demonstration meeting” to let participants see what happens at a typical Toastmasters meeting. While typical meetings involve writing and delivering speeches, no one will be expected to speak at this initial meeting.
