River Road will be closed across the river from downtown Cherokee, from 3/21-3/23 for the installation of a new sewer line and manhole in the roadway. Please seek an alternate route for these days while improvements to the community sewer system are being made. Thank you and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Chief Update:

Today is a great day. On this day 3/17/22 our Chief our Friend our Brother is being released from the hospital. The surgeon along with the physical therapist are impressed with the way he is healing and walking. They notified the family Tuesday evening and confirmed it Wednesday that he will be getting discharged at 12 o'clock on Thursday. 1461 along with 1404 and 1407 are out of district reference bringing our Chief home.

Congratulations to Captian Mike Rich on his retirement. On March 11 2022 at 0700 Captian Rich completed his last 24hr shift after 25 Years of service with EBCI Fire & Rescue. Captian Rich was a cornerstone in the department with a wealth knowledge he was always to share with his fellow firefighters, both career and volunteer. Congratulations and thank you Captian Rich.

Notice of Hydrant Flushing
Starting Sunday March 13th Cherokee Water & Sewer Department will have a crew out doing our biannual Unidirectional Flushing Program during the hours of 8PM-6AM. The crew will be flushing the main waterlines Sunday night through Thursday mornings. This will continue until the entire distribution system is completed and helps The Cherokee Water & Sewer Department maintain quality water. Customers could experience low water pressure, possible discoloration, air in the lines, etc. If you have any questions or concerns, please call 828-359-6106.

Friends & Neighbors, we need your support! As many of you know, one of our brothers, Chief Terry Rholetter, was badly burned on a wildfire on 12 February. All of the firefighters in Macon County are coming together to put on a benefit, more details to follow. 2/4/22 at approx. 11:35pm Cherokee Fire & Rescue responded to a fully involved structure fire on Wilbur Sequoyah in the Big Cove community. The house was not occupied, and no injuries were reported. While fighting the fire crews were diverted to Bunches Creek for a vehicle in the river. 3 occupants of the vehicle were rescued from the river by firefighters. No injuries reported. Special thanks to Cherokee Fire and Rescue for all they do to ensure the safety of our community.
Also, thank you to Bryson City Fire Department and Qualla Fire Department for their assistance.
