How well are you "living in the dash"? You know the dash on grave stones separating the day of birth and the day of death? That dash represents your life. If you could look into yours, up to this point, what would it reveal? Whether you realize it or not, you're writing your life story one day at a time, slowly filling up that dash.
An anti-grammarian's wisdom for good writing: #1 - "Don't use no double negatives."
Good advice to remember: "When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise" (Proverbs 10:19).
Words are good and powerful, but should be used with caution and restraint: "When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise" (Proverbs 10:19).
"My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the king; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer" (Psalm 45:1).
Never underestimate the incredible power of words: "An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up" (Proverbs 12:25).
Choose those with whom you associate with care. Their influence is greater than we realize: "He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm" (Proverbs 13:20).
"Get it in writing!" This oft-used adage offers wisdom for business transactions. But it also speaks well of the need to record those things - facts about our lives, beliefs, values - that we would like to pass along to the next generations, whether at work or in our homes.
What's the best way to perpetuate your beliefs, values and lessons life has taught you? "Keep my commandments and live, and my teaching as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart" (Proverbs 7:2-3).
Put them into writing - leave a written legacy.
