Professor and students capture images of the solar eclipse from 111,000 feet - UTC News Releases Dr. Daniel Loveless and students launched a high altitude balloon in northern Soddy Daisy, Tenn. to get a unique perspective of the recent solar eclipse.

A couple of my favorites from our eclipse balloon. The first is the Earth in shadow of the moon, and the second shows fragments of the balloon as it burst right ~111,000 ft. Many others to follow in a slide deck in the coming week.

If a tree (limb) falls in the woods, sometimes a HAB payload falls with it.

Our eclipse balloon survived a brisk -68C ish during totality to continue on to over 110,000 ft, and is now about 60 ft from being back on the ground. Found it after hiking down a waterfall, up a creek, and partway up Signal. Stuck in a tree taunting me with brief data transmissions. Gonna need a bucket truck or an agile tree climber or both for this one.
