On 4/25/22, Co.3, Co.2, Co.7, and CCRS were toned for a residential structure fire. E34 arrived with heavy fire showing from the house with a rapidly spreading brush fire as well. E34s officer used the deck gun to get a quick knockdown while the rest of the crew stretched an attack line for entry. T35 arrived right behind and established a water supply. Crews from Co.2 and Co.7 also assisted in fire attack, water supply, search, and overhaul. Fortunately no one was at home at the time of the fire. The residents are being assisted by The Red Cross.

At 2:06 today, Companies 3,1,2, and CCRS were dispatched for a residential structure fire. The caller advised there was fire on the first and second floor. While en route, Chief 3 requested Charlotte County Co 3 for a tanker and manpower. Chief 3 arrived on scene with heavy fire throughout the structure. E34 arrived shorty behind and began fire attack. Units stayed on scene for several hours afterwards overhauling and hitting hot spots.

We would like to thank everyone who came out to the Annual Southside Virginia Volunteer Firefighters Association Convention! Although we did not have the usual competition events this year, we had a great turnout from our community for the parade, bounce house, demonstrations and games. We would also like to thank Cluster Springs VFD for bringing their Engine 7 (our old Engine 31) down.

On 3/21/22, Co. 3 and Co. 1(Boydton) were toned for a tractor trailer on fire spreading to the woods. After the initial dispatch, Mecklenburg 911 upgraded the call to a working structure fire adding Co. 2(Buckhorn) and Chase City Rescue. While en route, E34 could see a large column of smoke and added Co. 7(South Hill) for a tanker and brush truck. Chief 1 arrived on scene to find a semi trailer fully involved, along with a shed, woods and equipment on fire with several other buildings as exposures. E34 arrived right behind Chief 1 and used the deck gun to knock down the bulk of the fire before pulling 2 lines to contain the rest of the fires. Crews spent a significant amount of time overhauling before clearing.

Fire Department nomination form submission

There is still time to help nominate our department for a grain bin rescue kit from Nationwide Insurance!

In 2019, 39 people died in grain bin accidents. As everyone knows, we live in a farming community with plenty grain bins or silos around. Unfortunately, if someone were to become entrapped in a grain bin, we lack the proper equipment to rescue them. The closest grain rescue equipment, to our knowledge, is close to an hour and a half away. We would like to do our part to better protect our farmers, however, our budget does not always allow to purchase everything we would like.
Every year Nationwide Insurance sponsors a Grain Bin Safety Week and gives away the proper rescue equipment and the training classes to use it. We ask that, if possible, you go to https://mczl17fxj42zvsd29j7dr1qy63yq.pub.sfmc-content.com/42g3teprfqh/qlqqdwpyalo and nominate our department! We also ask that you share this with other, especially farmers! The more nominations we get, the better chance we have at receiving the equipment.
The nomination takes less than 5 minutes and the following information is needed:
-Fire Department Name: Chase City Volunteer Fire Department
-Fire Department Contact Name: Josh Whitten
-Fire Department Street Address: 213 E 2nd St
-Fire Department City: Chase City
-Fire Department State: Virginia
-Fire Department Zip: 23924
-Fire Department Phone Number: 434-372-3395
-Fire Department Email: [email protected]
Thank you for your help and please share!

Please, do not attempt to do any outdoor burning of any kind today! If we receive complaints of people burning, your fire will be extinguished and Va Dept of Forestry will respond, most likely resulting in a citation. Please help keep everyone safe!

03/07/2022

With today’s windy weather, the fire danger is exponentially increased. Please refrain from any outdoor burning and do not discard smoking materials outside!

We would like to thank everyone who came by last night and purchased a chicken dinner from us! We would not be able to operate without the generosity of our community. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the following:

H Lee Brankley for allowing us the use of his cookers.

Alan Lenhart with Parker Oil for the donation of propane.
Castle's Butcher Shop for helping us as always with our purchases.

Thank you to everyone again!

Chicken is almost ready to come off the grill and will be ready at 5. Come by and get a plate!

Tonight members continued our search for new attack line setups by testing out several different types of hoses thanks to Snap-tite Hose. We learned a lot and will definitely take it into consideration over the next few weeks.

03/01/2022

Co. 3 took in a vehicle fire earlier today in our first due area in Lunenburg County. We would like to extend a big thanks to Va Dept of Forestry for being close so by and keeping the fire from spreading any further into a large tract of planted pines!

Increased fire danger today! Please consider withholding burning even after the 4pm burn ban.

Expect a sunny sky across the area today. Becoming breezy to windy this aftn, as west to northwest winds will gust to 25 to 45 mph this aftn into this evening in the wake of a dry cold front. These winds and low relative humidities will lead to increased fire danger.

The burn ban is now in effect! Please follow all rules, they are in place for a reason!

Virginia's fire season is here and with it, the 4 p.m. burn law takes effect. Between Feb. 15 and April 30, open-air burning is restricted until 4 p.m. šŸ”„šŸš«

If you must burn, be cautious and informed. Visit our website for more info on regulations and why Virginia has this law.

Co. 3 assisted Co. 2, Co. 1, and VDOF with a large brush fire this afternoon. Even though the burn ban is not in effect yet, please use extreme caution burning. The recent high winds and dry fuels have caused several brush fires in our area within the past 2 days.

It is unfortunate that we announce another passing within our department, Charles Magann. Charles was a Life Member and held many positions including, most notably, Chief up to March 2021. Charles loved the fire department and all it’s members. He also wanted and believed the department deserved only the best. We will never know, but we’re pretty sure he carried around at least $10 worth of quarters in his pocket at all times in case someone wanted a drink out of the machine in the bay. Charles will certainly be missed.

A graveside service for Aubrey Wood will be tomorrow Tuesday, Jan 18th at 2pm at Woodlawn Cemetery in Chase City.

If you don’t absolutely have to be out and about today, stay home! Enjoy the snow day bundled up on the couch with a cup of coffee. Roadways are expected to become slick.

01/15/2022

Good message from our friends at MEC! Just because you think the line may be dead doesn’t mean it is. Let the professionals handle it. Also, if there are barrels or cones placed in the roadways or around lines, DO NOT DRIVE AROUND THEM OR THROUGH THEM.

Winter weather can do a number on our infrastructure. Ice/Snow laden trees are infamous for bringing down power lines and are the number one cause of outages during winter storms. If you see a downed power line, STAY AWAY and call 911 immediately!

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Aubrey Wood. Aubrey was a member of our department for well over 60 years and continued to take care of us well after being able to respond to calls. By making sure we stayed within budget and keeping a tight watch on our money, Aubrey was pivotal in making us into the department we are today. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers in this time.
