Every day for #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth I will be posting a quote from one of my favorite MH accounts (or one of yours!! thanks for the recs). Today I bring you @wisdomofanxiety. Later today I will post a follow up to this post that will offer you some prompts to dive a bit deeper into strengthening your mental health. Please tag a friend below. Invite them into these 31 days of mental health exploration together and let’s take on the #mindfulmftchallenge.

No shade thrown at math, writing, and science, but I think most of us can agree that we could have used some classes to support our mental, emotional, physical, and relational health growing up.
What do you think would be different if you learned earlier on in life any of the above?
Without space to get curious, have conversation, and challenge or disrupt, flawed narratives become our way of life.
Imperfection means we’re unlovable.
Being sensitive is weakness.
Whoever denies more wins.
Your self critic is right.
And so on.
The good news? It’s never too late to rewrite that which doesn’t serve you. It’s not too late to find more aligned and supportive beliefs. It’s not too late to find the healing in ownership and accountability, or to find a self care practice that honors you instead of the you the world told you you needed to be.
What do you wish you learned growing up and what are you rewriting today? Leave it in the comments below.
See you later for the follow up post and prompts. #mindfulmft

Self-care is necessary - not just when you're worn out or tired, but even when things are going great! Laughter, letting your hair down, and fun gives you strength to persevere and presence to be with those you love.

Although this talks about moms, it can be said about dads too. Kids don't need a perfect parent. They need someone who will be a safe place for them.

Just a friendly reminder that there is no such thing as the perfect mother!⁣

Your trigger is a sign of an unmet need.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
The need to be seen, heard, acknowledged, supported, respected, and so much more. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
In the past, I’ve shared about triggers surrounding our child's behaviour and many moms have responded with "I can control how I react with my child, but I lose it on my partner."⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
They are adults. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
We feel they should know better. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
We feel they show KNOW our needs. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Here's the thing, you may not even know what you need in that moment. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
If you don't stop to reflect on what is triggering you and how your partner can help, then how the heck are they supposed to magically know?⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
I wish it was like the movies where I was sad and my husband automatically knew what was wrong and showed up with flowers or drew me a bath and sent me to relax. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
But it's not like the movies. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
We are responsible for identifying our needs and communicating them to our partner. This is often best done after we've had some time to calm down and reflect because the way an argument begins predicts how it will end 98% of the time. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣
@pyschedmommy and are hosting a two part relationship series to help you with the adjustment that your relationship goes through when you become parents. To you both productive communi ation skills to help you feel heard and supported!⁣⁣

The Attachment Theory: How Childhood Affects Life

I often get asked how does my childhood actually affect my life. Are these questions about my parents really important? Why do we need to talk about the past? I just want to move forward.

AntiLoneliness

Acceptance doesn't mean compromise, giving up, surrendering, victimising.
Acceptance means I accept what is happening in the present moment, without pushing it away, without going against it, without trying to control it, without adding another layer of stress and self-blame in my life.
And at the same time, I commit, I promise to myself, that I will get back to it when I feel calmer, more aware and safer, in order to adjust my actions according to what I need and what I think is important to me, and plan the next step.

I first accept and then commit.

That's the basis of the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
ACT is a unique empirically based psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies, together with commitment and behavior change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility. Psychological flexibility means contacting the present moment fully as a conscious human being, and based on what the situation affords, changing or persisting in behavior in the service of chosen values.

ACT teaches people how to engage with and overcome painful thoughts and feelings through acceptance and self-compassion.

Many effects of trauma exist below the level of thought. They are automatic responses of our "lower brain" which serve to protect us but also hold us captive. If you are ready to break free from the effects of trauma, reach out to someone who is trained to help.

Please don't tell trauma survivors to "think positive". Trauma symptoms are not thoughts.

Talk about a hard lesson to practice!

Many times in a therapy session I have apologized to a client because they deserve it and are due it -explaining that he or she may never get the apology they deserve from the person that did the wrong. It can be healing anyway. So can this:

12/02/2020

Sometimes people cover a lot of pain with a smile or a laugh. We think things are okay because they seem happy, but underneath they are sad, grieving, or angry. Take some time to be kind to others today. Call someone or wave across the driveway to a neighbor. Keep physically distanced, but socially connected.

11/30/2020

Sometimes we feel guilty about not succeeding. We knew we did better before, but now we can't seem to get it right. What if our best doesn't look the same from day to day? Is that grace something you can give yourself?
