BALANCED BODY AND MIND
Lisa Altieri, RN, CHHC, (Certified Holistic Health Coach)
David Altieri DPT (Physical Therapy services) As a Health Coach, I offer a supportive environment that will enable you to achieve your health goals naturally, while learning about different foods and how to prepare them.
Traditional methods focus primarily on calories, carbs, fats, and proteins individually, rather than concentrating on a balanced diet and lifestyle to optimize health. I use a Holistic approach and focus is on each client’s bioindividually.

Whats for dinner? Why it's Kale!!😊
Enjoyed by many, feared by some😄
Tonight I am sautéing it in a little garlic/ crushed red pepper infused EVOO.
Why must you try Kale? Or maybe try again

Balance.. a must! Often times I have not seen success for clients until they can achieve "some" form of this. I know, I know I hear the "Type A's out there saying "that's easier said then done." That's why you all ,more than anyone, can benefit from the assistance of someone like me :

This week's #housecall is all about beating your junk food habit, but remember, there is no such thing as junk food. There is junk, and there is food. Read more about it here: http://bit.ly/1VlRsmn
Great article. Put some on the "outside" as well. Your skin and your hair will thank you.
drperlmutter.com So the message is clear: carbs are detrimental to the brain, and we should welcome healthful fats back to the table.
Four years ago when I turned 50 I asked myself what could I do for myself that would be good for me and have long-lasting results. I started taking Pilates classes 2-3 times/week and have been going strong since then. I was intimidated at first so I hid in the back of the room until I got the hang of things. I quickly learned that I didn't need to do that as the instructors always offer different levels of the exercise .The changes I have experienced not only physically, but mentally are huge. I just love it! This Saturday May 2, is National Pilates day. Go find a class and give it a try, or try one on you tube. Here is a simple breathing exercise to start with.

You have a lot more power than you think!
We need a revolution. Cooking real food is a revolutionary act.
One of my goals for this year is to meditate on a daily basis even if it is for 5 minutes. I have practiced it some, but I plan on diving in...opps ("quietly slipping" in to it I mean) this year. You see for us Type A personalities it takes a lot more focus to settle in. I use to pride myself on the fact that I could accomplish more by 10:00 am then some people get done all day. I now know that starting the day with meditation settles my mind, and sets my intention for the day. It also does my body a whole lot of good as well. It lowers Blood Pressure, decreases inflammation, and may protect us from heart disease as well. Give it a try there is a lot of information out there to help get you started.
meditationtechniques.co How many times have you attempted to meditate, only to end up with your thoughts wandering elsewhere? Meditation is not everyone’s cup of tea, I’ll give you that. For many people, the moment they start to meditate, intrusive thoughts come rushing in, rendering the entire meditative experience quite…
healthyandnaturalworld.com Did you know that most Americans eat foods on a daily basis that are banned in other countries because they are known to cause inflammation, growth defects, and even cancer? For numerous reasons the US government and FDA allows those foods into your food supply.
Yes!! So proud to be doing this for a living. I so enjoy seeing my client's reach their health goals, and help others define what that might look like for them. It's going to be a great 2015!
huffingtonpost.com Another year is coming to an end, and many of us are asking: "Did I achieve my goals this year -- professionally and personally?" 2014 may have been a slow year, or it could have been one of the best years yet....
Not to mention it is a great way for friends and family members of all ages to spend time together. It is cheaper, you can control the type and amount of salt and sugar you consume, as well as other ingredients in general. It's fun!

There is NEVER a reason to eat fast food...
It seems like lately I have had a lot of people tell me they are having trouble #sleeping, either falling asleep and/or "staying" asleep. Love this post from my friends at Food Matters. There can be many reasons for #Insomnia. I agree that a routine is a must. Keep your bedroom a "safe haven", and make it a stress free zone. Keep topics of #stress out of there, such as finances, appointments, family issues, etc. If your mind is racing with things that keep popping in to your head keep a pen notepad on your nightstand, jot it down and get it off your mind. Make your bedroom a place of total comfort, and relaxation. Cover up any lights from electronics (clocks, T.V. etc.) Eat your last bite 2 -3 hours before your bedtime, (I know, easier said than done), but try and shoot for that. Cleaning up in a relaxing bath or shower can help promote better sleep, and choosing comfortable pajamas made of 100 natural fabrics will just add to your comfort. Also schedule a check up with your Holistic Practitioner for recommendations for supplements and herbs that may do the trick for you. #Magnesium has been helpful for some and we are learning that many of us are deficient in it. I hope you find some of these suggestions helpful..... now go get your rest!

Dont need to be a Vegan to enjoy this!
Yes... This just happened! Vegan Avocado Chocolate Mousse!
- 2 medium sized ripe avocados
- 1/3 cup raw cacao powder, or more to taste
- 5 fresh dates, pitted and roughly chopped
- 1/4 cup coconut milk, nut milk or filtered water
- 1tsp natural vanilla extract or pure vanilla bean powder
- A pinch of unrefined sea salt
Optional: Dried coconut, grated dark chocolate or berries to serve
1. Soak the dates in the milk or water for 10-30 minutes to soften. In a blender, add the avocado flesh, dates, milk, vanilla and salt and cacao powder. Blend until smooth. You may need a little more liquid to facilitate blending and scrape down the sides of the jug a few times.
2. Adjust ingredients to taste, adding more cacao powder if it needs it. Serve and garnish with your choice of toppings!
Guaranteed to make your taste buds dance ;-)

The Avocado helps to improve vascular health and blood flow, making it a Super Food for your Brain! If you want to add some creaminess to your morning smoothie (not to mention, a whole lot of nutrition), throw in half of an avocado. You won't taste it amongst the berries I promise. Save the other half with the pit in it, drizzle it with some lemon juice, and keep it in an airtight container in the fridge. The Avocado is a healthy fat that will boost your HDL levels (that's the good cholesterol... think of "H" for happy). It also has powerful Anti-Inflammatory benefits because of it's unique combination of Vitamins C and E, Carotenoids, selenium, zinc, phytosterols and Omega-3 fatty acids.
Perhaps one of the world's most perfect foods! We love them in anything from smoothies, salads, to raw cacao desserts.
What's your favorite way to use the amazing Avocado?

Isn't it time we do something about this? Together we can change the way people think about food! Are you IIN?
I don't know how much we are going to change the GMA, but we can sure educate ourselves!
Robyn O'Brien: "Is the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) Becoming a 20th Century Relic? A question that it starting to pop up is: Is the Grocery Manufacturers Association still delivering value to its members? Would members be better served by forming a new organization? What if a new group started? Let’s just hypothetically call it the Food Production Association, and its mission was to meet the needs of companies in the 21st century? A look back at the history of the Grocery Manufacturers Association suggests this might be a good idea..."
Who is the GMA, you ask? An Industry association with a membership consisting of food, beverage and consumer products corporations, including most of the major agrichemcial corporations. Kellogg's, Nestle, General Mills, Coca-Cola, Monsanto, Syngenta, Dow - you get the picture. The GMA recently sued the state of Vermont to try to stop VT's GMO labeling law that was just passed. The GMA has also been busy with Representative Mike Pompeo trying to push a bill through Congress to outlaw states' rights to mandate GMO labeling. And the GMA has also been busy lobbying the FDA to make mandatory GMO labeling illegal, and to legally allow GMOs to be labeled "natural." The GMA has been VERY busy trying to keep the People in the dark about what's in their food, and threatening and suing states that attempt to pass GMO labeling laws. The GMA loves and has such high respect for its customers, doesn't it?

I always make my own dressing, it is so easy and I like to control the ingredients. You can use a 3:1 (3 parts oil to 1 part vinegar ratio) for a basic vinaigrette. Add Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper, shake it up in a jar, and that's it! If you have a little more time, fresh herbs and garlic make it not only taste better, but healthier for you.
Ok, so you're making a ridiculously delicious salad for a picnic tomorrow, picked and chopped all the veggies straight from your garden. GREAT, you're half way there! The question is - what are you putting ON your salad? If you're making your own dressing, or buying organic, you're in the clear... but watch out for the hazards of regular salad dressings from the store - bit.ly/OGSaladDressing

It's all about the "Gut" my friends.
Did you know that over 100 Million Americans have some form of a Digestive problem? These issues can present as reflux, gas, rashes bloating, headaches and of a more serious nature such as allergies, arthritis, mood disorders and many other health problems. There are over 200 over-the-counter remedies for digestive disorders, many of which can create even more digestive problems on top of what a person is already dealing with.
I was surprised once when a client shared with me that she thought everyone had bloating and/or headaches. She stated she had experienced this for so many years she really never gave it much thought, that is, until other gut issues started to show up as well. It made me sad, that she did not know that she didn't have to suffer. Sad that she didn't know that most conventional Doctors would just keep prescribing over-the-counter meds instead of trying to work with her in figuring out where her problems were coming from.
I am happy to say that today not only has she eliminated her digestive issues, but after learning how to eat clean and live a natural life, she is 20lbs lighter and feeling like she has endless energy.
I often get asked which things too avoid, I think this is a good list
