On Tuesday, May 19, the Butler seniors donned their caps and gowns and visited the halls of the elementary and middle schools where it all began. This favorite annual tradition gives students a chance to take a “victory lap” through the schools that helped shape their journey.

A special thanks to the Butler Bands Drumline for escorting our seniors and to the Butler Cheer seniors for showing off their school spirit along the way!

Congratulations, Class of 2026! ❤️🖤🤍🎶📣

Being a band parent is so worth it! ❤️

I don’t know who scheduled the fundraiser.

I don’t know why the trailer inventory sheet disappeared.

If you are looking for someone to quietly sit in the bleachers and simply enjoy the performance… I can tell you now… I am not that parent.

But what I do have… are a very particular set of skills.

Skills I have acquired over a very long marching season.

Skills that make me a nightmare for broken canopy tents, missing uniforms, and parents who reply-all to the entire booster email chain.

I can back a 20-foot trailer into a parking spot with surgical precision while holding a breakfast burrito and answering a text that says:
‘Do we still need ice?’

I can locate a lost freshman percussionist in under four minutes using only instinct, radio traffic, and the sound of uncontrolled stick clicking.

I have survived bus rosters. I have survived prop loading. I have survived 17 straight hours at a competition fueled entirely by concession stand nachos and emotional instability.

I know how to stretch a budget so far that economists should probably study me.

I can set up hospitality for 300 people in a cafeteria built in 1974 with six outlets and one working sink.

I have stared directly into the eyes of a band director at 11:47 PM when they say:
‘Hey… one more quick thing.’

And I did not flinch.

I will organize the volunteers. I will repair the plume box with zip ties and prayer. I will make 4,000 chicken sandwiches appear out of thin air.

Because I am a booster parent.

And while the world sees chaos…
we see kids.

We see the nervous freshman stepping onto the field for the first time.

We see the senior realizing it is their final performance.

We see the kid who struggled to belong finally finding their people under stadium lights and in band hall laughter.

That is why we do this.

Not because it is easy. Not because it is glamorous. Not because anyone fully understands how much work it actually takes.

We do it because somewhere between the truck loads, the fundraisers, the meetings, and the exhaustion… these programs become home for our kids.

And if protecting that experience means learning a ridiculous set of skills along the way…

Then so be it.

Today, the David W. Butler HS Jazz Ensemble was honored to perform at the Parr Center on the campus of Central Piedmont Community College. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their talent and professionalism before JROTC members, distinguished speakers, and the Superintendent.
