Transitions afterschool was hard for us… I would jump straight to my to do list sending him into a spiral… we started by greeting each other and talking we would eat together then create together. Sometimes he talked sometimes I talked but we both listened to our own bodies and each other…

So when it was time to do homework or the tasks of the afternoon he was a participant and not a hostage… Hi I’m Tara I’ve create calm kid kits to help littles with transitions and screen free activities… if you are into that stick around… we’re glad you’re here ❤️

This morning my son said he didn’t want to go to school.

My instinct—like usual—was to fix it so we could get out the door.
But I didn’t.

I realized he didn’t need solutions.
He needed me to stop and listen.

He said his teacher never believes him.
And what I heard underneath that was:
I don’t feel listened to.

So I stayed.

I didn’t rush him.
I didn’t get upset.
I didn’t dismiss what he was feeling.

He stayed under the covers, and I stayed right there beside him.
Not leaving.
Not pushing.
Just being present.

I think that’s what helped him come out.
Not my words.
Not fixing anything.
Just my presence letting him know it was okay to be exactly where he was.

When he finally came out from under the covers, he asked if we could color.
So we did.

I didn’t bring the situation back up.
He didn’t either.

But something shifted.

His attitude changed.
He was talking like himself again.
We made eye contact.
He was ready to go.

And honestly—it regulated me too.

I want to encourage you today:
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can offer isn’t advice or answers.

It’s your presence.

Just being might be exactly what someone you encounter today needs.
