Again, we call on Charlotte City Council & Mecklenburg County Commission to stand your ground on the 1-77 Express Toll Lanes.

You lose all respect if you are in so much fear of the legislature that you will go back and rescind your opposition of the proposed toll lanes that your community has asked you to do.

Stop being a cowardly lion. Have you even called the Governor to ask him if he will instruct NCDOT to rescind their support for the toll lanes to prove that the CRPTO are not acting unilaterally?

If you aren’t going to do that, then just pay the money back and move on. What’s unacceptable is giving in to the legislature again.

Also, don’t continue to give us the cowardly excuse of what happens if we don’t roll over on our belly for the legislature? The problem of congestion will still exist minus your pride.

If you give in, the problem will still exist. I-77 is a federal road with funding devolving to the state but the problem is supposed to be fixed on the back of Charlotteans paying a foreign company to do what the federal government & the state can’t provide.

Stand up for us, take a seat at the front of the bus, take a seat at the lunch counter, pour the tea in the river . Do something to lead or stop saying you have any power to do anything. You all are powerless & people shouldn’t waste their time participating in municipal elections.

Mayor, we hear your point about efficiency, but a city is not a business, and residents are not consumers. A business exists to sell a product. A city exists to uphold the public good. The people of Charlotte aren’t “950,000 customers”; they are constituents, co‑owners of this community, and the very reason government exists.

When we frame the city as a business, we risk treating essential needs like optional services and treating residents’ wellbeing like a line item. Cities don’t get to choose their “market.” They are accountable to everyone, housed or unhoused, wealthy or struggling, long‑time residents or newcomers.

A city’s job isn’t to “project itself” like a brand. It’s to protect, serve, and invest in the people who rely on it for safety, stability, and dignity. That means centering human needs, food, housing, mobility, opportunity, not profit‑style metrics.

Charlotte isn’t a corporation. It’s a community. And communities thrive when government leads with responsibility; not business analogies.
