This was such a great project to work on in North Charleston!

We're firm believers in having 24/7 AED access in public spaces and we're proud these organizations chose to work with us on this project.

Regardless of the vendor or storage solution you choose, remember its about the end goal of helping to save lives. Having AED access at public parks, sports fields and other high trafficked areas is just one critical component of that.
On a crisp March evening in 2021, Scott LaBombard and friends gathered at the Municipal Playground in Westfield, Massachusetts for a game of pickleball.

LaBombard, who also serves as President of the Little League Association, had been trained in CPR and to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).

He had no idea as he made his first serve of the match, that he would soon need to rely on these skills to save the life of a friend.

Excellent progress in deploying the first of many 24/7 accessible AEDs in Coralville, Iowa. The project is being led by the Rotary-Kerber HEARTSafe group. This unit has been sited in front of the Iowa City and Coralville convention center. The group plans to strategically deploy 2 dozen 24/7 accessible AEDs in Coralville, Iowa City, and North Liberty in days to come.
Each location has been integrated with the 911 system as well as with the PulsePoint Foundation app.

Defibrillators are proven lifesavers but they are only effective if they are accessible at the time of need.
Schools and athletic fields are ideal locations for purpose-built AED enclosures. Read about the effort underway in Renfrewshire:

24/7 Access Lifesaving Stations

Congratulations to the forward thinking officials in Harford County, MD!
Lifesaving equipment installed along County trials for public use
FOX 45 News
On Tuesday, Harford County installed bright yellow boxes, each containing an automated external defibrillator, or AED, in case of cardiac arrest, and a Stop the Bleed Kit, in case of a traumatic injury.

The boxes are in place at the Ma & Pa Trial and Schucks Regional Park in Bel Air, Mariner Point Park in Joppa, and Friends Park in Forest Hill.

“Emergencies like cardiac arrest and serious bleeding from a fall or injury can happen anywhere, even if you’re out for a hike or a run,” County Executive Barry Glassman said. “As a former volunteer EMT, I know that with proper instruction, anyone can learn to use this equipment and have the power to save a life.”

24/7 Secure Access Lifesaving Stations

One Emergency-Two Potentially Different Outcomes
One of our early adopters from Westerly Rec took to writing an article for PRB (Parks & Rec Business) magazine.

When a person suffers cardiac arrest, there is a one in five chance a potentially life-saving Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is nearby. But up to 30 per cent of the time, the device is locked inside a closed building.

All defibrillators should be readily available as and when the need arises. In an ideal world AEDs would available in unlocked or otherwise easily accessible locations. However, there are instances where the levels of security are such that it is necessary to have these devices stored in a more secure environment, including secure access enclosures. This is not only to protect against theft, but also to protect against vandalism, curiosity, weather, and mischievousness.

The American Heart Association recently updated their guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care.

Today we're taking a look at Push Hard and Fast

Untrained bystanders should call 911 and provide Hands-Only CPR, pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest to the rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute.

If the bystander is trained in CPR and can perform breaths, he or she should add breaths in a 30:2 compressions-to-breaths ratio.

The American Heart Association recently updated their guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care.

Today we're taking a look at Raising Awareness.

Currently less than 40% of non-hospitalized adults experiencing cardiac arrest receive layperson-initiated CPR before the arrival of emergency medical services.

Bystander CPR training should target specific socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic populations who have historically exhibited lower rates of bystander CPR.

CPR training should address gender-related barriers to improve bystander CPR rates for women.

As the weather changes and many places start to bring in their AED units, you have to wonder why?

The obvious answer is that the batteries will drain fast when its cold out and other parts of the unit could be damaged or stop working.

That makes sense, but there are solutions available to keep those AED's available 24/7, secure and warm.

We recently received another shipment of the Ce-Tek All Weather AED Enclosures from our partners in the U.K.

The great thing about these units is that they have a heating system to keep AED units warm in the winter and a lock to prevent theft but still keeping them accessible to the public through the 911 system.

Having AED units that are accessible to the public 24/7 is one of the easiest ways your community can increase the rate of bystander CPR and defibrillation.

You can check out the cases here: https://aedteam.com/product/ce-tek-all-weather-aed-enclosure/

24/7 Secure Access Lifesaving Stations

We are thrilled to hear that one of our favorite early adopters, the Charlestown Ambulance Rescue Service is adding bleeding control equipment to their lifesaving strategies by placing them in secure access enclosures!
Ambulance rescue service, town funding bring 'Stop the Bleed' supplies to Charlestown

"This is the latest in a series of ongoing efforts to improve emergency response and safety in our community," Kettle said. "We are always seeking new ways to provide immediate medical assistance, even before first responders arrive, and this intiative will help to further that effort."

Each of the four community kits has been placed inside 24-7 lockboxes that also houses an automated external defibrillator, or AED device, as well as other first aid supplies. The vandalism-proof lockboxes were installed in 2019 and can be accessed using a number code available to all town dispatchers and given to citizens calling 911.
