The 11th annual Lowcountry Paintings Calendar is now available on my website https://www.andreahazel.com/books . The 2021 Calendar features 3 recent watercolor paintings of the South Carolina Lowcountry landscapes, and 9 paintings from my recent series "How It Was - Charleston in 1963". This year, a portion of calendar sales receipts will be donated to the Historic Charleston Foundation, which has graciously allowed me to paint from their South Carolina Department of Transportation photo collection of structures razed in the construction of I-26 and the Septima Clark Parkway through downtown Charleston.
- Printed on premium card stock paper - spiral wire binding - opens to 17" x 8.5"

Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Inc. Presents
Where Art Our Veterans-A Salute to Veterans in Art & Music
Luncheon with Renowned Watercolorist Mary Whyte with Special Guest Angela Mack, Executive Director and Chief Curator, The Gibbes Museum of Art

Charleston, SC (September 8, 2019) The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Inc. (CSOL®) is pleased to announce a luncheon featuring internationally-renowned watercolorist Mary Whyte and members of the Charleston Symphony, led by Concertmaster and Principal Pops Conductor Yuriy Bekker, at the Charleston Marriott on Lockwood Blvd on Thursday, October 17. Seating begins at 11:00 am.
Mary will share inspirational stories from the veterans whose portraits she painted, one from each of the 50 States, that comprise her new book, WE THE PEOPLE: Portraits of Veterans in America. Music by members of the Charleston Symphony will highlight the emotion of those stories, and Mary will reflect on the life lessons she learned during her 7-year creative process. Special guest Angela Mack, Executive Director and Chief Curator of The Gibbes Museum of Art will introduce Mary and the program. Morris Financial Concepts, Inc. is a Premier Sponsor of the event.
Tickets are priced from $130 to $225, with various benefits available at each level. Sponsorship opportunities are available as well. Portions of each ticket are tax-deductible.
The Where Art Our Veterans luncheon coincides with a series of events surrounding the launch of Mary’s book, copies of which will be available for sale and may be autographed at the event. The following weekend, the Charleston Symphony will feature all 50 Veterans’ portraits during the Pictures at an Exhibition Masterworks concerts on October 25 and 26 at the Charleston Gaillard Center, where Mayor John Tecklenberg will narrate Aaron Copland’s A Lincoln Portrait. The concerts are part of the grand opening of the exhibition of the 50 portraits at the City Waterfront Gallery. Attending the luncheon will truly enhance your appreciation of the performance by our exceptional Charleston Symphony led by Ken Lam, Music Director and the exhibition.
We invite you to be a part of what promises to be a moving experience by joining us for the Where Art Our Veterans luncheon. Proceeds of the event benefit the Charleston Symphony and CSOL Music Scholarships. The Charleston Symphony and CSOL are committed to education initiatives in the Lowcountry, and your support allows the symphony to dedicate more than $350,000 and almost one-third of our musicians' time to education and outreach initiatives that reach 20,000 students annually. In addition, the CSOL awards over $33,000 in music scholarships each year to students and professional musicians.

"Misty Afternoon" - 12x16 oil on panel by CAG Gallery artist Faye Sullivan. I paint primarily seascapes and marsh scenes. The one element Faye's paintings have in common is water. She is fascinated by the fact that water seems to be quite the chameleon. It reflects the clouds, time of day, wind, sky, and all the things surrounding it. This reflective quality is most helpful in repeating colors and light which helps to unify the scene. See more of Faye's seascapes and marsh scenes at the CAG Gallery, open daily from 11-5pm.

"Rainy Day in Antwerp" - watercolor painting by CAG Gallery artist Hank Pulkowski. Hank characterizes his current painting style as mostly representational, existing somewhere between the abstract and the realistic. The up-close detail of a representational painting may appear impressionistic, or even abstract, but when viewed from an appropriate distance, the painting takes on a sense of reality; that is, we can recognize the subject of the painting as an object that we understand and know. Stop by and see more of Hank's watercolors at the CAG Gallery, 160 E. Bay Street in downtown Charleston.
