At 1 p.m. today, Charleston County shifted to OPCON 2 and activated the Emergency Operations Center with personnel managing the county’s response to the winter storm.
Charleston County Public Works crews have begun 24-hour salting operations and will assist SCDOT through the night with a focus on interstates and bridges.
The Community Information Line is open at (843) 746-3900 and will remain staffed until 6 p.m. tonight. It will reopen at 8 a.m. tomorrow to provide updates and answer questions regarding the storm.
The latest forecast from the National Weather Service continues to predict record low temperatures and 3-4 inches of snowfall this weekend, with up to six inches possible in parts of the county.
The combination of rain, snow, and extreme cold is expected to create icy roadway conditions as overnight temperatures drop tonight and tomorrow. Residents are encouraged to stay off the roads if possible and use extreme caution if travel is necessary.

Warming centers to open Saturday, January 24th.
With overnight temperatures expected to dip, the following warming centers will open for those in need beginning at 7 p.m. tomorrow night, January 24.

The airfield at Charleston Airport has reopened.
FINAL UPDATE: The airfield at CHS has reopened, thanks to the tireless efforts of our dedicated staff, contractors, and partners. The runways and air traffic control tower are fully operational, and flights have resumed.
Passengers are encouraged to check with their airlines for schedule changes before arriving to CHS.
