Dominique and Florence Chantepie both grew up in the Loire Valley of France. Dominique’s infatuation with food began when he was just 7, helping his mother in the kitchen fix dinner for their family of seven. At 15, he decided to learn the art of pastry making and moved to the city of food: Paris. Just a few years later, Dominique’s desire, curiosity, and appetite brought him to Montreal where he worked as a Pastry Chef. This exposed him to new challenges and helped him create a new dessert repertoire.
It was not until Dominique moved to San Diego, California that he fulfilled his dream of being a restaurant owner. It was there where he met his wife and co-owner, Florence. They opened their first French Café and Bakery in 1991. Their Café specialized in European style breakfast and lunch with a wide variety of pastries, specialty cakes, wedding cakes, and artisan bread.
Once having their two kids, Millie and Mathis, they wanted to expose them to different cultures so they spent a few years traveling throughout Australia, the Pacific Islands, and Asia. They returned to France for six years only to realize that they wanted to come back to the United States, this time in the Holy City.
In 2014, Dominique and Florence opened their new concept of a French Café in Mount Pleasant with two business partners which led them to go out on their own. They began by opening Café Framboise on Market Street in 2015. A Breakfast and Lunch Place, that specializes in French Patisserie, where guests can enjoy a variety of sweet and savory selections in an inviting, tranquil and modern environment. In the last two months, they opened Bistro a Vin next door which is an authentic Parisian Bistro with a full dinner and dessert menu. Both of these business ventures are the cultivation of 40 years in the food industry.
