Coronavirus COVID-19 Update

The COVID-19 coronavirus is thought to be spread either through respiratory droplets or through touch of surfaces with the virus on it. Much is speculated about the spreading and effects of the virus, and it is best to be cautious to prevent the spread of the virus. There is no active vaccine on the public market currently for this virus, though a vaccine is being tested. It is unknown when this vaccine will be offered to the public in the future.

The CDC recommends taking various precautions, including washing your hands often and avoiding travel to high risk areas of the world. The CDC does not recommend wearing a mask if you have no symptoms. If you are exhibiting symptoms such as shortness of breath, fever, and cough and suspect contact with COVID-19, wear a mask and call ahead to seek medical advice and treatment. Here is more information on recommendations from the CDC:

[06/06/18]   It’s that glorious time of the year again where beach trips and pool days will be occupying our weekend. As we soak up the sun this summer, remember to apply your sunscreen! The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends using SPF 30 or higher and apply every 2 hours or after swimming (AAD, 2018).

Another quick reminder as we are beginning to spend more time in the sun: some medication can increase your sensitivity to the sun. These medications include:
Antibiotics, particularly tetracyclines (doxycycline or minocycline) and fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin)
Tri-cyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline, nortriptyline)
Some older antihistamines like promethazine
Griseofulvin, an anti-fungal medication
Accutane (isotretinoin), Retin-A (tretinoin), and other acne medications
Some chemotherapy medications
Sulfonylureas (glyburide, glipizide, glimepiride), used to treat diabetes
Diuretics (water pills), especially hydrochlorothiazide and other thiazide diuretics
Some heart medications for arrhythmia, including amiodarone

If you are taking any of these, please be sure to use sunscreen or stay covered while spending time in the sun.

As always, we wish you a happy and SAFE summer!

[04/29/18]   Do you have itchy, watery eyes or runny nose? Talk to us about your seasonal allergies before they become a bigger problem!

As spring continues to bloom, so do our seasonal allergies. There are various preventative medication options that might work for you, so if you do not already take allergy medication, call or come visit us to talk to Dr. Dave or Christina, DNP. If you do already know which allergy medication works best for you, think about starting it now.

[04/05/18]   Running the Bridge? Want a boost? Come in for some IV hydration this weekend- pre or post run!
