However, when we purchased our tickets we got combo tour tickets for Fort Sumter plus the city tour from Gray Line. Long story short, when we arrived at boat dock we were informed that the boat was full and we could not go. Imagine our disappointment. We were offered positions on later departure. We could not stay that long. We were given our money back.
The cruise was with Spiritline Cruises. In our discussions with Cruise Line and Gray Line we learned that both of these people reported to "Rick". No idea of ownership but it is obvious both companies performances are responsibility of "Rick".
Gray Line blamed the boat company and of course the boat company blamed Gray Line. No one would take responsibility!
It is nearly 4 hours since their error which caused us to lose opportunity to visit Ft Sumter. I'm shocked to see no one has reached out to see what it is going to take to make us happy with "Rick's" companies.
Do NOT book a tour with these people. They are extremely untrustworthy!

Congratulations, International African American Museum on a beautiful opening ceremony!

Today, parks across the country will commemorate ! Our newest federal holiday celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, when United States troops reached Galveston, Texas, they informed local African Americans that the Civil War was over and that they were free men and women.
Here in Charleston, 1865 was a “Year of Jubilee” for new freedmen. Over half of the city’s population at the beginning of the war was enslaved. The city had seen the first shots of the Civil War, and had witnessed some of the first African-American troops in the U.S. Army fight for their freedom. In February 1865, when Confederate forces evacuated the city, the system of slavery ended in Charleston.
Black Charlestonians expressed their joy loudly and proudly. In March 1865, thousands of freedmen attended a parade that didn’t just look back on slavery, but mocked it! A large hearse that participated in the parade declared that “SLAVERY IS DEAD”, and that “Sumter dug his grave on the 13th of April, 1861”. It is the only record this ranger has seen of a joyous Civil War “funeral”.
In Galveston, Charleston, and across the country, 1865 was a year of celebration and change. By the end of the year, the 13th Amendment made official what was a reality for black Americans across the country. The road ahead was uncertain, but four million people now had the legal ability to make choices of their own for the first time. We are honored to celebrate that today.
Image: Black U.S. soldiers of the 55th Massachusetts regiment march through streets full of celebrating people. Surrounding them are ruins of buildings and intact church steeple. Courtesy of Library of Congress.

It is quite fitting that we celebrate Juneteenth today, just one week before IAAM officially opens next Tuesday, June 27. But today, our focus is on honoring the emancipation of the enslaved African American people and the resilience of the human spirit.
Pictured here is the Tide Tribute. This is sacred ground, a tribute to the many captive Africans who did not survive the journey across the Atlantic Ocean. It is also a testament to the courage, resilience, and strength of the many who overcame overwhelming odds and horrible conditions to survive their journey; individuals from which African Americans descend.
And today on Juneteenth, we celebrate the freedom of the enslaved.
Let's come together in joy, reflection, and solidarity as we commemorate this significant milestone in our history.
Happy Father's Day! You know what dad would love?
