Deep Watering: Water early in the morning to reduce evaporation and ensure plants stay hydrated all day. 2. Mulch Magic: Apply a thick layer of organic mulch to retain soil moisture and keep roots cool. 3. Shade Solutions: Use shade cloth or plant taller crops to protect delicate veggies from intense sunlight. 4. Monitor & Maintain: Regularly check soil moisture, inspect for pests, and remove any damaged leaves. Stay vigilant and keep your garden thriving!

Warm colors, such as red, yellow and orange, are bold and filling, and are best used at the front of the garden to create a welcoming flow. Cooler tones, such as greens and blues, are best in the background where they recede from the eye and give an illusion of greater depth and openness.

Blossom-end rot of tomato, pepper, squash, and watermelon may be noticed now. The bottom end of the fruit becomes brown and rotted. Promptly remove any fruits that have blossom-end rot or are badly malformed. This nutritional disorder is caused by a lack of calcium in developing fruits and is brought on by dry conditions and inconsistent watering. Water your plants deeply and regularly and keep them mulched. Tomato plants may need 1-2 gallons of water each at least twice a week during drought periods.

Check container gardens, especially those in full sun, twice a day this time of year for soil moisture. Containers dry out quickly in our summer heat. Remember to continue to fertilize, nutrients leach out quickly from container soil. Avoid fertilizing when container soil is dry or you may easily burn plant roots.

Avoid overhead watering as it can easily scorch leaves and damage the appearance of fragile flowers. Water at the base of your annuals with a soaker hose or drip irrigation.

Tiers, with taller plants at the back and shorter plants in the foreground, expand the garden space and give it a better scale. Taller plants can be added in corners or at the sides, with shorter plants filling in the center. Terraces, containers and raised beds can all create tiers.
